I just looked at the leaderboard and for a split second thought gee, these people must be geniuses. anybody if they so chose could go around answering "I dunno"9000 times.or scout out all the unanswered days old ?s I don't care at all about the points,I'm interested in trying to give a best answer. maybe also calculate the best answer in regards to how many other replies beat out.
another idea,as you are selecting your best answer,it would be nice to check off unworthy answers that didn't even try,so that those people have their 2pts removed!!
other suggestions? how could you contact yahoo about this without just being one of 2,000,000 inquiries

Actually, when you see an answerer just filling in air to get the points, take the time to click 'report abuse', and choose 'not a question or an answer'.
Yahoo will take a look and pull the points, and in serious abuse cases, suspend their account.

I am on the leader board but worked hard for it. I never answer "thanks for the 2 points" or "I dunno" nor do I just type gibberish to get the points. I pick and choose the questions that I answer and try to give legitimate answers. I also rarely answer "silly" questions though, once in a while, I do for a change of pace.
I also don't think yahoo! answers knows how to eliminate this problem. It would be nice if silly questions couldn't even be asked and, yes, it would be nice if inappropriate answers are removed from the voting for best answer. However, if the asker does their own choosing for best answer instead of putting it to vote, it might cut down on the worthless answers gettting chosen. Don't count on it though. Sometimes the asker doesn't really want a true or honest answer.

I agree with you.
I checked out the leaderboards also. How can some people actually have 15,000 pts? It doesn't seem possible.
Remember, at first we only have 20 chances to answer questions. Umm..that's 20x2...40 pts...then we get 40 chances....40x2..80 pts. Give me a break.
I have quit thinking about points and am taking my time to answer.
When I ran out of chances to answer....i signed up for a new acct. smirk. So now when I use up my answers....I go to my other accts.
I enjoy answering questions. It doesn't make sense to limit chances for answers. After all, the forum is called, ANSWERS.

I truly have a palm tree in my backyard that leans a touch over my driveway. i'm afraid sometime its going to fall on my motor vehicle through fact interior the spring we get severe winds and the ingredient sways huge time. So I asked, "how plenty wind will it take till now it falls?" and the respond I have been given became, "i do no longer comprehend, how plenty?" So, i comprehend what you advise. Its stressful while somebody truly desires an answer that somebody else could B.S. you like that. possibly you will desire to in basic terms get factors for suitable answer and there would desire to be a worst answer decision that deducts factors. Like on Jeopardy, you lose factors for the dumb answer and you get factors once you're precise.

I sort of agree with ya. but what can you do...honestly. by complaining on here you are not fighting anything. Send YAHOO answers this message... a few dozen times, it will increase the odds of it making a difference...... Do you drive a hummer and complain about the gas prices too? I'm just saying if you really hate the system, dont use it!

I think you make a great point. I dont know why, other than its not a matter of the quality of the answers, its a matter of being able to say to an advertiser, "hey look this is how many hits we have a day here, and this is how many loyal users we have,"

I ANSWER TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE AND IF I DIDN'T KNOW I'D DO A LITTLE RESEARCH ON MY OWN AND FIND OUT THE CORRECT ANSWER AND NOT JUST THE BEST ONE I COULD THINK OF, MOST OF THE TIME ANYWAY.
ALSO, I THOUGHT THAT IF SOMEONE IS ONLY ANSWERING JUST TO GET SOME POINTS, WHAT I WOULD DO IS REPORT THEM FOR ABUSING THE SYSTEM. WHERE IS SAYS ABUSE, CLICK ON IT AND THEN PICK THE OPTION THAT YOU THINK IS BEST, THAT IS ALL YOU REALY COULD DO IN YOUR SITUATION.
IF MY ANSWERS ARE THE BEST THAT IS BECAUSE I ACTUALY TRIED AND ON TOP OF THAT I MADE TEN EXTRA POINTS JUST IN MY SLEEP.

that makes sence but i mean most people here are adults that wont get caught up in something so stupid as getting points to reach another level...most of the people actually do try and help others...i guess its just useless to try and penalize people because its not a big deal

huh? YA isnt boot camp you know. and there are a heap of people who ask silly questions just to see how silly the answer is, and there are serious questions. and the people answering are a % of both. just relax and go about your own answers. it doesnt really matter to you unless your asking and getting stupid replies when you dont want them.
