Davao City is certainly on the forefront when it comes to awards and recognition. In recent years, Davao City has received various accolades given by various government and non-government organizations.

Davao City, a fascinating city of natural and cultural diversity, is the Philippines’ center of trade, industry and tourism in bountiful island of Mindanao.

It is also a city of superlatives. It is home of the Philippine Eagle - the world’s largest eagle, Waling waling - the queen of orchids, Durian - the king of fruits, Mt. Apo - the country’s highest peak. Davao also has the second best potable water in the world. With a land area of 244,000 hectares, Davao is the world’s largest city.

Among the highly urbanized cities in Asia, Davao City has consistently been in the top 20 (reaching as high as top 15) in the Most Livable Cities in Asia list survey of Asiaweek Magazine. It was also the highest ranked Philippine city in the same survey.

Davao City was also awarded the Most Competitive Metro City in the Philippines based on competitiveness survey study conducted by the Asian Institute of Management and the Department of Trade and Industry. Davao garnered high ratings in areas of quality of life, cost of doing business, quality of human resources, linkages and accessibility, infrastructure and dynamism of the local economy.

The city also received other awards including the Cleanest and Greenest Highly Urbanized City in the Philippines, champion in Local Government Performance for US-AID-assisted projects, Kalakbay Award’s Destination of the Year, top honors in the National Literacy Awards, Best Peace and Order Council, Best City Police Office, Most Child Friendly City, among others.

Situated in a typhoon-free zone with no pronounced dry or wet season, Davao is center of agriculture and a preferred site for trade and investment. Fresh banana, pineapple, mango, coconut by-products, furniture, activated carbon, cement, among others, are its top export products. Its tropical climate and high quality of life coupled with the availability of a wide range of accommodations from inns, lodges, resorts to deluxe hotels with world class facilities also make the city a favorite tourist and convention destination.

If you are in for an exciting and unforgettable destination for business and leisure, come to Davao City and experience the captivating lure of nature’s bounty fused with cosmopolitan comforts found only in this bustling and modern city.

It depends. What do you want to do?

Beaches: For a great party place with a pretty good beach (some say it's too diry or commercialized already but I'm not complaining), definitely go to Boracay. Another less touristy place with good beaches is Bohol. More secluded (and usually more expensive options) are in Palawan.

Surfing: Siargao! There are also some much-less famous surf sites on the east coast beaches of Luzon island, but you better do some research on that yourself.

Shopping: Manila, definitely. There are malls aplenty, and a lot of shopping districts, from the classier ones in Makati central to the downright dirty Divisoria (with tons of cheap wholesale deals).

Ethnic wonders: Go to the Banaue Rice Terraces, with a side trip to the Sagada caves. To see a glimpse of Spanish colonial architecture, go to the old city of Vigan.

There's a lot more to do and see. Go to http://www.tourism.gov.ph/index.asp to learn more.
