in your opinion was disco music BAD
or did people just get tired of it

it's funny because if you mention disco to kids my age they'll be like "what the **** disco sucks", yet these kids don't know the bee gees from the beatles and the only disco song they can name is "stayin alive"

Disco's no better or worse than any other genre. It has its good songs and its bad songs.

Personally, I think there were some great disco tunes, especially The Bee Gees and Abba. One of my favorite disco tunes was Kiss' "I was made for loving you." Not at all what you'd expect from Kiss, of course, and they got a lot of crap from their fans for it, but I dig it.

I don't think disco's BAD. It's okay. I actually like it. I pretty much know every 70's/80's song. I think it really depends on what type of music you were brought up on. I was brought up on smooth R&B, neo and classic soul and a little disco. So even though I'm 16, I don't hate it, but I do get a little tired of it after a while. That's what I think happend too. Why no one likes it anymore.

Although Disco came and went before I was even born (1985), I think it's really fun music. Since you mentioned the Bee Gees, my favorite Brothers Gibb song was "How Deep is Your Love."

The disco era was just as good as any other, could've lasted longer in my opinion, it's just good fun dance music is all, that got a bad label. How can you say Earth, Wind, and Fire are bad? What about KC and the Sunshine Band, and Kool and the Gang, are you kidding? These are all great bands. Seems like it was one big peer pressure chain-effect, sad really.

it couldn't have been ALL that bad because so many NEW artists have a definite disco influence in their music, not to mention the fact that you can't turn on the tv after 10 pm and NOT see an infomercial for a disco "sounds of the 70's" complilation album.
and who DOESN'T know the words to "i will survive?" and that was SO a disco song

I lived through it, and not only did the music suck, but the self centered 'appearance is all' lifestyle that went with it really, REALLY sucked. Discos were sweaty meat markets full of shallow people.

Shudder, you just had to remind me, didn't you?

The whole disco scene sucked.
Disco music sucked.
Disco clothes sucked.
Disco attitude sucked.
Disco drugs sucked.
Disco clubs sucked.
And that damned mirrored ball really sucked.
Thank goodness rock eventually won out.

It was much worse than that. You have no idea. It was the advent of the drum machine. Back then, the drum machine was the equivalent to Pong or PacMan. In this day of XBOX 360, imagine nothing but Pong or PacMan everywhere you go, every time you turn on a radio, and then have to do a stupid dance to it.

Disco was the beginning of the end. It signified America's willingness to be dumbed-down.
