What it is as a guy myself, he feels free from all when he is talking to you and he can really relate to you more than his girlfriend. He rather show his thoughts and problems with someone who he knows will understand him. And you seem to be that person which he feels comfortable. You may not see it but when the times get rough he may wish to be with you later down the road instead of his girlfriend.

Well, it could mean that he enjoys spending time with you more than he does his girlfriend, maybe he even digs you as more than a friend...or it could be like my experience of my hot high school best guy friend ended up being gay, so he was only hanging out with me more me b/c I was "safe" and his girlfriends would end up dumping him before sex became an issue b/c they all assumed he and I were together. Yeah, and I was so in love with the guy and even I didn't find out he was gay until years later after we were no longer speaking....yep...good times...I say ask him what's going on. I wish I had been that direct back then. I could have saved myself some time and heartache.
