Here is the best definition of Conservative and Liberal I have ever heard, but it is accurate:

Liberals judge their success by how many people are receiving benefits from some kind of government program. The more people dependent on government benefits, getting a piece of the government pie, the more successful the Liberals are.

Conservatives judge their success by how few people require government benefits. The more prosperous the society is for all people, so everyone gets a piece of the pie, the more successful the conservatives are.

Liberals basically believe that the average person is too ignorant to make decisions for themselves, so they need the government to tell them what to do and what to be, etc.

Conservatives believe that government is not qualified to tell people what to do or what to be, because only the people know enough about themselves, their needs and wants and values, to be able to determine what is best for them.

So liberals want a very large government, with departments for everything, basically controlling everything. They also want most people working directly for the government or receiving assistance from the government.

Conservatives want as small a government as possible, with departments to provide only for those things that private individuals and corporations cannot possibly provide, such as military, etc.

Actually, this is what the founding fathers wanted. Even as recently as the 1960's when John F. Kennedy stated that a rising tide lifts all ships, and the federal government only taxed the people about 5% (today it's like 35%), the government was much smaller then today, and we had much more prosperity as a result.

Rich get richer, everyone else gets poorer, war is peace.

Reading these comments here, it's hysterical and disturbing to think that people believe it is the natural order of things - and good - that someone works 80 hours a week and is unable to afford rent and the person who gets wealthy off the underpaid person's labor is somehow entitled to benefit more from the other person's labor than the other person is. This is not the natural order of things, this is a rigged system permitting the theft of labor for the benefit of the few.

The 'liberal' position is not to take from some and give to others but to make sure that people get a more equitable distribution of the wealth produced by their labor.

You make it. The government doesn't take it from you. (that's 10)

Or "The Little Red Hen"

Or "The Grasshopper and the Ant"

Liberalism: Someone else makes it. The government gives it to you.
