I've read the book, pretty good but very typical for Stephen King. The evil force was good, great detail as always, character development was there. Not as good as some of his others, like The Stand, though I did like it more thanThe Regulators. King uses the same "Christ figure sacrifices himself" method he employs in many of his books.
The movie was ok, but like every other Stephen King book turned movie, it left a lot to be desired and didn't get across enough of the details of the book. Then again what can you expect, it was a made-for-tv movie... the only movie based on a Stephen King book that really did a great job of translating onto the big screen was The Green Mile, and it's cast was solid. Basically it's worth a watch, but don't have your expectations too high, the book is a lot better.

After reading that book I got rid of all my Stephen King novels and did not read any of his books for four years. If the book messed me up so badly I have no intention of facing the movie!
