Men have a higher IQ and scientific intelligence, but the cognitive function of women is much higher. This is because much of the female mind is devoted to emotion, and social conditions. This is why women tend to be much better at "reading" people. Men tend to have a less emotional, and more logical mind. This accounts for the raised IQ and scientific intelligence. A man will usually view things as "test-prove" where as a woman uses her intuition.

Safe sex! haha...

There is no diffinitive way to label one sex as smarter than the other. Men are smarter than women in some areas and vice versa. There are too many people to say that half the world's population is smarter than the other, simply based on what sex they are. I thinkit is a sexist question because then if men were smarter, women would definately be shoved back into homes as housewives. And if women were smarter, men would be forced to be the hunters and gatherers.

I believe that men are definitely smarter then women. Look at the history, for generations humanity depended on man power. Artists, generals, builders, kings and list goes on.... the greatest ones were always men. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to put women down. They have their role in the society. Because of great mothers we had those smart kings, artists, generals, builders and so on. Women are the back bone of our emotional sides. But the intelligence goes out to men.

Women are smarter. Only 7% of women end up in prison. As opposed to 93% of men. Men are the ones who kill and cause most of the crimes in our world. Men use women for sex and rape. Many men are devoid of compassion and have to be taught how to care about other people. Men are always worried about another men diminishing and impugning their manhood.
Men are more likely to kill each other for any little reason. Many men are threatened and fear weakness and are always on guard because men are always at war with each other and themselves. Need I say more?

according to statistics..and studies.. men were suspose to be smarter in math and science type courses..but that is changing. women seem to have street smarts.common sense..and organizational skills. women seem to juggle multiple tasks more effectively than men. a report released just yesterday.. stated that women are more into electronics..and other gadgets etc... becoming more knowlegeable in mechanical things.. i think in some ways men are not getting dumber but less energetic...or lazier. even in the military or government.. more women.. ie condo leeza..hillary.are. better at negotiating... debating... etc.more women are excelling in academic math..science and are moving into fields once dominated by men only. so women have learned how to do it all.. motherhood..home.. office.. business world.. economics...

On IQ tests, women have the edge on the verbal side, men on the mathematical side. Almost all the really really bright are men, so are most of the low IQ. Women as a whole live longer than men.

In general, either sex is equaly intelligent. However, this doesn't mean men and women do not think differently. Especially when pertaining to emotions. Such differences tend to blur the line. Yet, men and women are still equally inteligent.

Women are smarter than men. Studies have shown that.

I'm not sure what statistics say, but technically speaking the IQ tests are most likely going to be slanted anyway. So, if you mean the abstract idea of intelligence, I would say both. I wouldn't be surprised to see men having higher IQ scores though due to the nature of the tests.

Both men and women can have IQ's over, say, 130; which is pretty smart according to anyone's standards; so, in that way, there's a good chance both sexes have the same shot at being intelligent.

At the same time, there is the type of intelligence generally associated with "female", which is verbal skills, understanding human nature, seeing the big picture, reading other people, having really good "common sense", etc. Then there is the type of intelligence associated with "male" , which is logic, reason, numbers, etc. People have a mix of both types of intelligences, regardless of their gender.

Our culture has (since around the 60's) stopped seeing giftedness in human understand, verbal abilities and common sense as "intelligence" because unlike the days of the forming of our country, recent decades have been ones where technology is the latest thing, the thing that gets people the highest pay, and the importance of science and math was stressed. As a result, people who were gifted in "female" intelligence were not seen as intelligent at all because - on top of a culture that no longer valued words as it once had - people with "human/verbal" intelligence tend to be underachievers in school because their thinking is "bigger" than that of those of can narrowly focus on one subject and become a wiz at it. With the "male" thinking, too, often comes the drive to compete and be the best; where "female" thinking often is a matter of feeling above this "petty need to be the best" in school in a world where there are starving children and the matter of whether or not one has a date for the Valentine's dance.

Anyway, the fact is there are the two types of intelligences and there are people who have high degrees of both, but I don't think they're all that common. It is generally believed that people with "freakish" levels of math ability may have a higher risk of mental illness, so there is apparently a ceiling on how much of that is too much. If, however, I were asked if I think there are more men who are math geniuses as of this writing, I would say there are. If you measure all-around intelligence, though, and if you acknowledge that the other types of intelligence count too; then I do think that as of this writing women are generally smarter than men. The math geniuses tend to lack common sense and other skills that make them come across as stupid at times.

Why? I believe that the development of "human/verbal" intelligence must be carefully nurtured by a mother who knows exactly what she's doing and who does not differentiate between her baby boy and baby girl when it comes to the importance of this. (Many presidents are known to have been very close to their mothers.) I think if the mother doesn't nurture this type of intelligence in her baby boy his lack of ability to understand the people around him may make his feel anxious, which could get "fight or flight" hormones going, which could, in turn, give a "blast" of extra development to the math intelligence. Little boys already have the additional male hormones for this type of brain development even without feeling stressed.

I think Nature may give little girls a natural push toward the verbal/human intelligence development, so even without the smart mother who knows what she's doing little girls develop enough of it on their own. It think the mother who's gifted at "child-building" can help her daughter or son reach their intellectual development potential, but I think a daughter suffers less if her mother doesn't quite do it well enough.

To sum up: I have seen in my own life that a person's range of intelligences is very associated with the type and quality of nurturing a child receives rather than with their gender. I have seen all-around high intelligence in people of both genders with the same mother (and one of those people is adopted).

I think the way things are now in general, there are more men who are brilliant in math fields; and there are so many women who were lost by the schools. Its almost like men were lost by their families. Women were lost by the schools. Anyway, as things are now I do think women have an edge in all-around intelligence.
I think baby girls have an edge as well. And until people start to figure out how to do a better job of nurturing little boys I do think women are, in general, more intelligent much of the time.
