It depends. You should take a closer look at the markings on the box and/or device. If you have a DVD-ROM/CD-RW then you can burn CDs but only read from DVDs. If you have a DVD-RW you can write DVDs also so you need to pay special attention to how the drive is labelled. Also there are usually graphics on the box/device that identify the functions it has.

Nope, all that means is you can watch DVDs. The RW following the CD- means read and write meaning you can only burn CDs.

No. It plays DVD only. Biut it can read and burns CD.
For a drive that can burns DVD, it will be tagged as DVD-RW.

Sounds like it is a CD burner, but only a DVD player, or it would say DVD-R on it.

No. You can read DVDs and CDs, but can only burn CDs.
It would be labeled DVD-RW/CD-RW if it could do both.
