Think about it, in the last 50 plus years, generation after generation has told their kids to study and work hard in school so they don't have to work like their parents did. Today, young adults were told early in their lives, study so you don't have to work hard later on. Also, tasks that kids used to do to learn at a young age, today are told to call someone else to do it or "wait for your father to do it". How about kids away at college calling home every weekend for more money? whats your opinions? any more examples? list them

So spoiled.

What's even sadder to me? We are getting them where I work. They are slowly creeping in. The quality of our work has just gone downhill since they started.

The conversations I overhear in the lunchroom make my stomach turn. "My mom actually wanted me to start making my own lunch to bring to work, so I told her I wouldn't; I'd just buy my lunch here." or "My parents are going out of town next week, so I'm having a huge party at my house while they're away." or "I think I might buy an Escalade" (because he still lives at home with mommy and daddy and doesn't have to pay a dime for bills). I could go on and on and on.

They surf the internet all day and then actually take an attitude when I (a member of management) ask them what they have been doing. They actually think they don't have to answer to me or anyone else and that we should pay them over $30k a year to sit and catch up on their fantasy football team.

This is why people go postal.

Some are and some aren't. Stereo typing is wrong no matter who it's about. If some kids are spoiled, who do you think made them that way? It's not the kids fault that's for sure.
I have 14 & 13 y/o daughters and neither are spoiled rotten. Do they wear expensive clothes and shoes? Yes they do. Their favorite jeans cost over $100. But they also are both in the accelerated program in school, A honor roll students (with an occasional B) they both play volleyball, basketball, and run track. The 13 y/o also plays tennis and the 14 y/o plays softball and is on the dance team. When they aren't busy with sports and school, they help me out at the no kill animal shelter that I run. They walk dogs, scoop poop, feed the animals, clean the cages, etc.
It all depends on how the kids are raised and what they are taught.

Today's American youth may or may not be spoiled, but they certainly are useless. I was putting together something not long ago, and asked a (normal!) 11-year-old to read the assembly instructions to me while my hands were busy...she couldn't do it!

I've seen kids who don't know how to weed a garden, sharpen a pencil with a pocket knife, cut up a green pepper or address an envelope. I've seen kids who don't know where to buy stamps, can't find Canada on a map, and have no idea how to open a jar of pickles.

And, I'm not talking about small children under 5, I'm talking about 10 to 14 year olds.

I'd say we're pretty much sunk, if these useless wastrels are our F-ing future.

I think every generation has its success stories and its failures. Perhaps the thing that has most hurt the generation coming to adulthood is parents who do not want to act like parents. I mean the ones who did not set limits, who wanted to be their kid's pal, to be cool, who wanted to give their kid all kinds of material advantages but did not give clear moral guidance or the tools needed for self-sufficiency. Divorce has also hurt and confused a lot of kids. Still, a surprising number are getting it together as they come into adulthood. This is not the first generation labeled spoiled -- I heard that about my own generation, the baby boomers. I look at my own kids, who, despite our imperfection as parents, are growing into responsible adults with good work ethics. They do not always choose exactly what we would have them choose, but overall, I'm proud of them and hopeful for them. Maybe we need to stop telling kids that the goal is not that they do not have to work hard, but that they should study so they will be able to work hard at something they really enjoy.

i am forty-nine the world is bigger today with many more things to chose from. i grew up with three tv channels. the county fair was the biggest thing going. i think young people from families with plenty of disposable income are for the most part spoiled and some families with much less disposable income go in hock to protect their kids from ridicule. i grew up in a time and place that did not have as large a gap between incomes. every day our country is becoming more like mexico, a few have a lot and a lot have much less. the haves seem to have a mind set that their place in life is all that matters. i could go on forever on this topic. to put it in a nut shell many of the haves live in a bubble.

todays youth is spoiled. 50 years ago we didn't have all the technology we have today. It's realy the parents call on when their child should get a job. I feel that if you moved away from home (college or not) you have to be able to support themselves. The parents should learn to say get a job and stick to that.

Today's youth are just more disrespectful, and are ignorant and lazy if you ask me. They look for loopholes, or ways around doing things. With technology moving like it is, they are consumed with games, and other devices that have taken away the imaginations, and creativity that we once had to conger up. Most of them need a swift kick in the pants, and be told to get off their *** and get a job.

I think that there are several factors contributing to the 'poor' behavior of the 'kids', today.

1) Lack or complete absence of discipline. If there are no boundaries, what keeps them from not getting out of control?
a) One factor causing this, would be "I might get in trouble" theory. If I discipline my child, perhaps, that child will turn me in?
b) Lack of control of the parent, if the parent is not in control, who is?
c) I don't want my child to hate me. I want to be their 'friend'.Being your child' friend, changes the dynamics of the parent-child relationship, and perhaps contributes to lack of respect.
2) We all want 'our' child to have 'more' than what we had, as a child. Since the fifties, commercialism has grown to astronomic proportion. So, compared to our parents and grandparents, it's practically sickening to what extent children of today have in their possession.
3)So, if we spoil our child, don't set standards, or boundaries, find it easier to give in or just hand out (bribes) to keep the peace...Then, why wouldn't we expect that these 'kids' show up on our doorsteps at age 25, and expect 'us' to take care of them, after-all, it's just what we did their entire childhood?

Yes kids are very spoiled! They don't want to do anything for the money they want. They blow hundreds of dollars on shoes and clothes. When they go to college they should work their way through to learn respect for that education that didn't come so easy. The parents are crippling these kids and then wonder why they are the way they are duh??????
