There's nothing wrong with leaving either on for any amount of time.
There are two primary arguments:
FOR SHUTTING DOWN:
You conserve electricity (Computers use about 2.5-3.5 KW per day when left on 24x7). You protect the computer from power fluctuations that might be occur, including surges from electrical storms)
FOR STAYING ON 24x7
You don't subject the electronics to periodic power surges that occur whenever the power is turned on. And your computer is available without having to wait for it to start up.
I leave my systems running 24x7. The only advice I'd give if you choose this, use a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) with voltage regulation abilities (cheap APCs don't have this, Belkin's do).

Is it undesirable, this is. there are various matters while leaving your computing device on. the 1st is ability value. In some factors of the international, it is going to cost you lots money if your electrical energy value is severe. 2nd, once you over-clock factors on the laptop, you truly shorten the life span of that section. by leaving the laptop on, you nonetheless shorten the life span of the computing device. Now you're at a double whammy. The third is the exterior ingredient, hackers. by leaving your computing device on, regardless of a solid AV and firewall, you run the prospect of hackers entering into your gadget. They do seek for open computers on torrent. I tell all my consumers to instruct off their computers while they do no longer look to be making use of it because it does preclude placed on & tear and you do no longer run a heavy probability that something is downloaded once you at the instant are not observing.

CTRL-ALT-DEL, then hit shutdown then select hibernate from scroll options
for reboot it takes less than 45 seconds restore time to reach same state you were before hibernation...
if hibernation is not seen in the options this link should help
http://www.windowsitpro.com/Article/ArticleID/13841/13841.html
hibernation saves the session to the hard drive and shuts down the whole system, ...it will save power, if you have a power guzzling workstation...

except for during lightening storms mine stays on 24/7
for YEARS!!!
The fan blades on the power supply should be cleaned
once a year. they will build up dust and dirt.
The motherboard should be blown off CAREFULLY
once a year also.
Dirt causes heat buildup and heat is a PCs worst enemy.
