You have to spend points to ask a question. And when you go up in level you'll be able to do some other things, like answering more questions in the same day and voting for more answers. For example in level 1 you can answer 10 questions (i think) in the same day but when you earn 250 points in level 2 you can answer 20

"To encourage participation and reward great answers, Yahoo! Answers has a system of points and levels. The number of points you get depends on the specific action you take. The points table below summarizes the point values for different actions. While you can't use points to buy or redeem anything, they do allow everyone to recognize how active and helpful you've been. (And they give you another excuse to brag to your friends.) "

The points in this "Q and A section" don't really have much of a purpose. Unfortunately there is no real reward for getting a certain amount of them- they are simply an indicator of how helpful you are with your advise. Others have turned it into a competition, but the points are fairly insignificant.

The higher the points, the more involved & active that person is. The higher points allows you to answer more questions, as you move up in levels. There is a daily limit.

The points are for cash and prizes. The more points you get the more cool stuff you get.
