If you like nature, explore the northern part of the state, the north central and north regions on the link below. Gorgeous scenery, national forests, wilderness areas, lakes. Check out the Snake River & Hell's Canyon. I lived in Montana for a while, which is also a beautiful state but seems much harsher than the lush scenery of northern Idaho. It's been years, but I can still remember how beautiful this area was.

I live in Spokane, Wa. and only have experienced north Idaho but I can recommend Coeur d'Alene. It has a beautiful lake, resort and lots of good shopping. It's a nice little town to spend some time. I've also heard that Hell's Canyon is great if you're feeling up to a hike. It's on the Oregon/ Idaho border.

For mountains, fishing, lakes, hiking, etc., nothing beats the Panhandle of Idaho, north of Sandpoint.
If you want upscale, visit Couer D'Alene like someone else suggested.

The whole state. Most towns are small and the wilderness is not that far away. When you get here try a little of everything and enjoy!
