Why is it that...?

Question

There is a black history month, black college fund, etc. but if there was a white history month or white college fund we would be "racist"?

I don't mean to group people into categories, but the people that support these foundations are more racist than most white people.

Also... has anyone else noticed that Oprah is really, really racist?

I asked my professor the same thing last semester. He explained something about the necessity of emphasizing pride to be in the running when it comes to business or academics.

If you think that's something, wait until the idea catches on that Black history is celebrated every month in Oprah's Legend style. THAT will be interesting.

No one asked my opinion, but l believe every nationality has a right to celebrate its culture.

White history month...that would be great...a few world wars, the wonderful story of indians, slavery, and immigrants (like the ever so pleasent Irish immigration). That's good stuff. Anyway, most history in the US school system is basically white history. What do you want?

Black people need role models. Role models that read and write. They need intellectuals to look up to. So, every college graduate is just a little chip away at racism. Are we doing it the best way? Probably not. Can you think of something better? Write you congresspeson, please...

Why don't we all write to have the black college funds changed to inner city children's college funds. Right now middle class blacks are soaking them up.

Yeah, actually, I have noticed Oprah's...tendencies. haha

But to be honest, it isn't called "racist" when against the white population because they are the majority. The minorities have free go against us, we killed millions of every single other race that we have come into contact with over the years. And normally the racism against whites is less degrading, more spiteful. The black race is just a much stronger race in the means of will power. Think about how popular the KKK is. Know what I mean? White people just tend to take out their superiority in hurtful ways, whereas black people turn their pride into community organizations. I dont think the people who formed these societies were more racist at all. I just think they had more drive to do what they did because we put them down so low.

First of all, black people have one month of recognition in which our ancestors deserve. They contributed/ worked hard building (physically) America, but were never recognized. You see the rich and famous white people today? Who do you think helped raised them? There was a time when only white people were mentioned in the history books, so why are you worried about white history? When you think about it, every other month/holiday is a white man's holiday (Ex: Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, Memorial Day, etc). We get one little month with 28 days in them and you want to complain. I don't get it.

Oprah? Racist? Nah Look at her audience. If there's any black people there, you can count them on your fingers. Where did you get that crap from? She married Steadman! From my knowledge, I think he's white. Actually, I've never seen Oprah dating her own race.

wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how ignorant are you! we have a black history month because all year long children in school are taught WHITE history. if we didn't have a black history month most people wouldn't know much about black history. hell most people don't know about black history now. there are plenty of college funds that are just for white people, Latin's, Asians, etc. it's just that we televise ours so we can help better our own people that may otherwise never get the chance to go to school.

suggestion to ignorant people like yourself, before you ask these type of questions that are very offensive see things from our perspective.

February was chosen as the month for black history because it holds the most history for black people, it's just a coincidence that it's the shortest month.

w.e.t. would be seen as racist by not just black people but white people. bet caters not just black people but Latin's as well. it's our answer to MTV (which is owned by the same company)

Oprah isn't racist yet what so wrong about wanting to help out people including black and white, etc. better themselves...
besides, I see her as more of a giver than a racist...she is in the black lady that is loved most by white women who watch her shows....if you ever seen her audience, you would notice an obvious number of white people who attend her shows.

Well, it is because the rest of the other months are 'white history' months.

I don't really mind because usually blacks don't care about black history months neither Hispanics about Hispanic cultural month, etc. It's just an excuse to sell more Coronas.

I think that your own prejudices are becoming evident, and you're becoming racist without noticing it.

Well white have enough solar ship programs to get into .blacks and other nationalities had to go threw much more then whites had to I think it's only fair that blacks , Hispanics and Native Americans and any other nationality get a holiday or month.And almost every time you turn your back some white person birth -day or some thing they did it will be recognized out of the month so I think its only fair but I'M sure that the way America is going whites will get there way and it will be a month for every thing they did its not like its enough that the president is white and most of America is run by whites!!AND IT'S ONLY RIGHT THAT OTHER NATIONALITIES THINGS THAT THEY DID THAT WAS GOOD FOR AMERICA GET RECOGNIZED.

These exist as a means of trying to balance the educational, historical, and economic disparities that still exist between caucasians and people of color. In principle I agree that by the continued existence of these entities and events we perpetuate a form of segregation that cannot be eliminated, but they do serve a purpose and do contribute to bringing equality closer to those who have been denied through the years. When white people are as downtrodden as people of color have been in this country I will be the first person to stand up in support of a group for them. Until then, such groups are racist.
