You treat Cabo like any city anywhere else. You keep your eyes open and don't act like a target.
A lot of the side streets get pretty dark. I never travel down dark streets alone at night... Well, I do but I don't recommend it for anyone.
Most people there are out to have fun or work. Unfortunately the last time I was there, there was a bit more criminal element. (Someone tried to sell me drugs!) The policia are cool, a lot of them are even walking around with M-16s (you never see that on Main Street, USA!). But you don't see them very often.

But it really is in how you carry yourself. Look like a victim, be a victim. The only problem I ever had... and I've been there a lot (My wife and I plan on retiring there) was a few locals whistling at my wife. That was the worst of it.

And I disagree with not talking to people on the street. Most of the locals are very nice, just use common sense... but never stop at the information booths!!! Those are timeshare leads. Unless you want to give away your afternoon, just keep walking and wave them off politely.

Yes, Cabo is safe for tourists to tool around. Just be smart about it. Stay on the beaten path... Don't separate from your group... Get directions and recommendations from a reputable source like your hotel, not from strangers on the streets, etc. I think you see my point. Like you would when traveling to any big city or other tourist area, be safe.

Cabo is good for Americans because almost everyone in the hotels, shopping areas and restaurants speaks good English. They also take American money and the area is pretty easy to navigate in a rental car. Have fun.

Be alert, take care of yourself. Don't stand out. Resolve what? This is kind of a silly question for a seasoned traveler.
