We have waited three years to marry and now he is being sent to Syria for work. I would like to know if there are americans in Syria and if so how many.

I have been to the middle east mainly kuwait and egypt. I know the threat of war is there. 8 miles from the border to be exact. I am just wondering how many americans I could expect to find there?

No chance of children for us. Both divorced and in early 40's. He works in Kuwait and has for 13 years, his company making him take this position or leave. My next question would be how hard will it be for him to work in the USA. He is egyptian, and I know even after marriage he has to wait for green card. Before this war we were all set to live in Kuwait. I did fine there, I can not believe this is happening to us. I know we are blessed to be safe now.

there are americans ALL over the middle east!!! it's safe dont be paranoid.
theproblem is that it's syria you are going to, with the current situation in the middle east it seems that Israel may attack syria as well.
try to make him stay and not go to syria. if you love him marry him and tell him to find a job here.
not a lot of americans will be found there not in syria though!!

With the US war machine and George at the helm and oh the US coperate world draining the money out of a lot of smaller nations I don't think it's safe for an American to live anywhere male or female.
Plus it's only a matter of time before Israel or Syria attack each other s again not really - it might take a while for the US to get it;s people ut of there and from the sound of it your own people would blame you if you got killed.

Depends on the level of personal freedom you need. To marry an egyptian man AND goto egypt. wow! An egyptian man would be under extreme pressure to have you act like an egyptian wife(speak when spoken to, can not go out alone, can not drive, can not go to school, etc)
I had a girlfriend who went to saudi arabia with her AMERICAN-CAUCASIAN husband. When she wanted to get a post graduate degree SHE HAD TO FLY TO ANOTHER COUNTRY TO ATTENT COLLEGE!
Just the idea scares the beejesus outa me. ggod luck
PS: what your guy says now doesn't mean a hole lot, and it has nothing to do with being honest or dishonest. He may not even know how much pressure he will come under. Especially if he will be working for egyptians. What YOU do will reflect very strongly on him, and could make his life pretty rough.

Honey, once you marry and go back there, you're leaping from the 21st Century back into the 12th Century. I, for one, dont care much for being forced in a Burka and having 'zero' rights. But if that floats yer boat, best of luck.
