YES...they are creepy. Their must be a reason the author of the the Adam and Eve part of the bible chose a snake to represent the devil.

I think most people were RAISED to be afraid of snakes. When you were young, your mom and dad told you to stay away from them because they kill people, basically, right? I think that's where it all starts. They also have this look.....The slithery, evil, don'tknowwhatyourthinking look, which makes me a little tense, dunno about you, lol. It's pretty normal to be afraid of snakes. A lot of people are...I mean...it's not your everyday neighbor that has a 13ft burmese python in his basement! As a reptile keeper, I've come to understand that snakes are not out to harm people. They don't want to kill you, they don't want to eat you (unless you come in contact with a very large snake and smell like rodent), they just wanna live their lives just like we do! Ok...I take that back. It's very rare a large snake would try and eat a person....but...anyway....Someone told me to start reading about snakes. Do some research and start to understand them. I recently read a book called "277 Secrets Your Snake (and Lizard) Wants You to Know". It was very funny and informative at the same time. A lot of interensting facts about lizards and stuff too. Next time you go to the library, check it out if they have it. Today, I would like to own a snake, but I haven't aquired one yet. The next reptile show that rolls around here I might hold my first snake....and maybe get one, lol. I used to be so scared of them too...but now I think half the fear is gone because I understand them now.

It's common But not very smart. Most snakes are harmless and the ones that can hurt you would rather leave you alone. Most people get bit by accident or by their own stupidity.

yes, even though I'm not. I am terrified of spiders though! As far as i'm concerned, the only good spider is a dead spider, and all spiders must die! I will go out of my way to kill them, and if I see a big one outside, me and my friends make a game of spraying different cleaners and insecticides on it till it dies, so we dont have to get too close. I'm not a mean person, I love other animals, just not ones with more than 4 legs! I really only go out of my way to kill the spiders because my aunt's dog died of a spider bite, and I cant let that happen to MY animals. Sorry, but I'd rather kill the spiders than let the spiders hurt my pets!

I'll be frank -- one of the things we LIKE about keeping snakes is that the norms are freaked out by them.

Having said that, there's a lot to like about snakes as pets. They're quiet; they don't scratch up the furniture or dig up your garden; they don't get fleas or pee on the rug; they don't wake you in the middle of the night because they want to go out; they don't have fur that makes you sneeze. And they're SO easy to maintain -- no litterbox to clean, no birdseed to vacuum up, no hair to vacuum up off the sofa cushions.

They actually ARE cuddly -- at least our corn snakes are. (Yes, I know, they're really just sucking up the excess metabolic heat that mammals make. But it SEEMS like they're cuddling.) And frankly, they're beautiful. "Jelly Roll" (our Okeetee corn snake, the classic orange and rust color) is a magnificent combination of colors, and "Clarity" (a "candy cane" variety, white with red blotches) is striking.

And I LOVE watching them move. It's a joy to see something with no legs undulating, stretching out its body and looping around your wrist. I also think it's fascinating to watch them eat -- yes, it's brutal, but as Steve Irwin says, "It's Nature's way." They're an incredible piece of biological engineering, the way they can capture prey without hearing, with poor vision and with no arms, legs, wings or talons.

But then, I'm not afraid of spiders either. We encourage the garden spiders (Aranea sp.) that grow in our yard; whenever they set up a web on one of my cars, I carefully move the web, spider and all, off to a safe place before driving away. Araneas (they're those beautiful golden orange and tan garden spiders with large bodies and perfect orb-shaped webs) are among the very best creatures you can have in the garden, along with earthworms -- they not only catch and eat TRULY dangerous insects such as mosquitos and flies, they also compete with more aggressive and hazardous spiders such as (in our area) the hobo spider and the wolf spider.

But I digress. I also love our cats and my daughter has two very sweet cockatiels. But I love the creepy-crawlies too -- they're under-appreciated, due entirely to ignorance and prejudice.

Perfectly normal. I used to be terrified but I "unlearned" my fear by educating myself and being around snakes.

everyone is scared of something so yes. i personally am not scared of them and even have a pet one named spot, but i am absolutely petrified of cockroaches. that's the good thing about living in England, you don't actually see that many, and if you do, they are only the little ones.
