Any good university will have decent programs in both areas.

The following schools have top programs in both areas:

1. MIT
2. University of Chicago
3. UC-Berkeley
4. Stanford University
5. Harvard University
6. Princeton University.
7. UCLA
8. University of Pennsylvania
9. University of Minnesota
10. Duke University
11. Carnegie Mellon
12. University of Rochester
13. University of Virginia
14. University of Michigan
15. Cornell University

You can probably throw in schools lile Cal Tech and Georgia Tech that have strong math programs and good economics programs.

Most of these schools are difficult to get into. Minnesota is less selective than many of the others on the list (on the undergraduate level -- but not on the graduate level), but has a top ten economics program and a top 15 math program. But the math program is stronger in applied math than many higher ranked programs.
