I found Australians quite friendly to Yanks (as they call us). Partly it comes from the help our troops gave Australia during World War II when they feared invasion by Japan.
Also they watch lots of imported American television and are curious about America.

LOTS of Nations love America & Americans and are quite aware that it is the leadership of America that has failed horribly to maintain Peace of Earth. They are hoping against hope that America elects a Democrat in 2008 and that the new President is smart enough to put Madeline Albright back in as Secretary of State. The world would be as peace if Madeline was on the job. Elect a Democrat in 2008 and demand Albright be placed in The State Department.

Wow!!!
I've read the responses and my eyes are burning. Americans wake the hell up! Why are you so disrespectful to yourselves? Of course all nations of the world like Americans - in fact we love Americans. I am a Zimbabwean - exiled for 18 years by the police in my country but I never say anything bad about my country or its people. I am not ashamed to tell anybody I am from Zimbabwe, including the British who have never treated me with respect. The irony of it is that most of my friends are British.
For Americans anywhere in the world nobody is out to get you, as the responses here seem to suggest.
I was in Luanda Angola during the height of the Cuba/Angola/South Africa/Russia/US (by proxey) war, in '83 and '84 and guess what? At that time every paper in America said Americans were hated in Angola. Wrong!
My best friends in Luanda (the Angolan capital) were two gentleman from Florida - American employees of Gulf Oil. And they never had to hide the fact that they were from the land of the free. You won't believe it but they were eating, drinking and sleeping in the same quarters with Cuban army officers, Russian military advisors and North Korean embassy workers. Yes American corporations were pumping the Angolan oil that was funding the war that was being contracted out to Cuban soldiers. At the same time that Angola supplied the US military with aviation fuel. All this while Chester Crocker (Pre.Reagan's Special Envoy for African Affairs) was calling Angola a problem for America.
The view that Americans are hated is a press view. Reality is to the contrary. Yes Americans are occassionally abducted, tortured and sometimes killed in foreign lands but guess what? Many are not inoccent as claimed by the press - agents of the government sometimes have their cover blown and the consequences are dire.
If you're American don't feel like an unwanted person. There's no need to sew Canadian flags onto your back packs. Guess what, Canada is a bigger problem for me a Zimbabwean than you as an American will ever be. And why? Because Canada has for the past fifteen years directed the abuse of Zimbabwe by British and South African multi-nationsl. So you'd be more likely to get a bonk on the head walking down the street in Zimbabwe for the Canadian flag than for a "Nuke N. Korea" T-shirt in Pyongyong.
You're good people so stop the whinning and travel with your heads held up high.

You have to differentiate between the people, the land, and the government.
Most people know that most Americans know little of anything about history, geography, and current events. to the americans, they will be dumbounded how little they know about the world yet how much they earn. (what others fail to realize is that americans put a lot of their resources in being good at their jobs). what they do know of america is that this is a land of great opportunity, so as such, they definitely love it, especially people in the third world or developing countries.
When it comes to government, if they believe in evil, Bush is at the helm of it. They prolly hate the government to the core. And the problem arises, as most people who have travelled aboard will attest to, when people link the government actions to good ordinary citizens. yet most people living in the third world hate their government anyways, so they do understand. Yet they may not be as forgiving when it comes to ignoring the world around u.
Btw, I like how u spelled "Israe-lies". Original!!!

Now that I think about it...I don't know. I'm Canadian, but I don't mind some Americans (I live right beside Alaska). Many European countries like Canada because of past wars and things...Holland for example. England is friends with Canada because we share the same political system, we're ruled by the queen, etc.
So yeah, many countries now don't like America because of all the fighting its caused....

The world is Anti-American for good reason, especially since January 20, 2001. But at the same time, the world is also jealous of the United States. (We wouldn't have the immigration problems we have if that wasn't true).

Thankfully, most people can differentiate between "Americans" and "American Foreign Policy". It would be silly to hate all Americans because of Iraq, just as it would be silly to hate all Muslims because of 9/11.
I think Iran's leader and their foreign policy is whacked, but my neighbor two doors up is from Iran and I like him - and he seems to like me. I think Kim Jon Ill (North Korea) is a psycho, but I don't hold it personaly against all North Koreans.
I haven't noticed any significant boycotts against American goods and American movies still seem to be popular worldwide. And, all the Americans I know who have traveled abroad recently say they were treated well and no countries have banned American tourists and their dollars.
In summary, if there is "dislike" towards Americans it doesn't seem to be very strong or passionate.
(And once our worldwide strategy of cultural imperialism is complete and everyone is forced to think like us and accept our values, then everyone will feel better 8-)
