A cycle is getting a single, double, triple and home run in the same game. There have been a couple of hundred players who hit for the cycle, but only a few who ever hit a "natural" cycle: That is getting first a single, then a double, then a triple and then a home run in that order.

hitting for the cycle is when a player hits a single,double,triple and home run in the same game order of the hits does not matter. Last player to hit for cycle was carlos guillen of detriot tigers 8-01-06.

Carlos Guillen did it tonight against The devil rays.
He is the first Tiger to hit for the cycle since Damion Easly did against The Brewers in June 2001.

Batting for the cycle means hitting a single, a double, a triple, and a Home Run in a single game. They do not have to come in any specific order or in consecutive at bats. Just as long as they all happen within a one game.
