I've learned many things including but not limited to:
-there's no shortage of people who like to toss out cliches from the comfort of anonymity.
-people really want to know if you think chris brown's hot
-many people don't care that as they're typing in a ? that 8000 similar questions have already been asked(and when I say similar I mean the exact same)
-you can't speak about anything related to other groups or cultures without somebody insulting you
you can't ask a question about rainbows without being called gay
-you can't ask a question about girls without being called gay
-tongue in cheek humor is not comprehended by most
-you have to put the most exquisite details in a simple ? or it won't make sense to some
-a good number of people don't know $#!+ about anything

did I miss some?toss them here. ..... or else please waste your time typing in an unwanted jab or insult(I mean this sarcastically of course, refer to the point on details)

I've learned a lot by answering question on Yahoo Answers, because in the process of investigating or clarifying my answers, I often come across new information that I never would have accessed had the question not been asked. There are truly a lot of garbage questions, but there are some very interesting ones as well. I'm rather eclectic in my choice of what questions to answer (peruse my question history and you'll see what I mean) but I am usually attracted to what seem to be real requests for information, although I will sometimes stop to address a concern like the one you raise. And sometimes I have fun answering a really goofy question that clearly doesn't need or want a serious answer. Along with the garbage questions, there are a lot of stupid answers. Some folks apparently don't read the whole question. Some folks insist on answering "I don't know", I guess for the points. But there are plenty of good answers, too. Sometimes, I'll see an answer that's better than mine and I'll learn something or get a new insight. As far as the tongue-in-cheek humor, it works best when the questioner is obviously asking a tongue-in-cheek question. Serious questions deserve serious responses, even if the asker is deficient in spelling and grammar skills. I like getting Best Answers (small thrill) but even more, I enjoy getting the occasional message from someone that my answer really helped them with a dilemma. As long as there are enough people like me answering questions here, I think Answers will be worthwhile.

Hey! I'm here to have fun. If I learn something along the way, that's great. I will agree with you that tongue in cheek humor is lost on the masses, but there are a few of us who understand. I usually give a little explaination after some of my stabs at humor, which tends to diminish the impact. Anonymity does give one the space to spout off, while staying safe from harm. That may not be a bad thing, actually. Alot of name calling, takes place. That is regrettable. I ,personally, have witnessed some very brat-like behavior of so-called adults. It is SO immature, that I wonder if I was only tricked into thinking they were adults. In any case, they don't have a thing to do with my life. This is JUST a leisure pasttime, with some very enjoyable moments along the way.

Sure, I've learned that most decent people like the idea of connecting to other people, not just researching a sales-oriented website when they have a question.

That folks like reaching out to other people who might feel their pain or be able to help with a problem, when there is no one around in their life who understands.

That a young woman who thinks she might be pregnant, or thinks she might be miscarrying, can get support and advice from other women who have experienced what she is going through, rather than just the clinical environment of many doctors offices telling you whatever is happening is common, or normal.

That other people have suffered with lawn problems, and can help you laugh about what seems insurmountable--and remind you that you are not the only one with that problem.

That people, of all sorts, like to think about questions that aren't just functional--but philosophical, funny, challenging, etc.

And I've learned that almost any question will result in one rude answer.

Time well wasted!

I've learned a lot about other cultures and found out some key information I wanted to know. It all depends on what you ask about.

I learned about housing in Australia
I learned about why Australia is called the Land of Oz
Interpretations about a movie
Why other religions have certain beliefs

The philosophical questions will get you into the situations you are dealing with.

I don't come here to GET answers, I come here to give them.

As for your points: it depends on what types of questions you view. There are a lot of silly questions, a lot of repetitions of questions, and a lot of non-questions that are primarily designed to do battle.

It also depends on what questions you ask and how you ask them. If you insult people, they will feel insulted, and many will respond in kind.

I am surprised at how many people ask questions here that they could easily search for on the net. (General knowledge stuff.)

Some people ask questions about specific problems in their lives, and I have seen some thoughtful and helpful responses.

The thing about humor is true many places, not just here. Humorists get complaints all the time from people who take them seriously. Make sure you give some hint that you are being tongue in cheek (that's what ;-) is for).

Many questions that seem clear to you are NOT clear to someone who doesn't know the context of your question. I see a lot of questions that could be asking 97 distinct things, but there's no knowing. Context good. Vagueness bad.

If you find no redeeming value to this service, you don't need to keep coming back.

Sorry to laugh but, HA! HA! HA! I'm not laughing at you! Your right, it drives me crazy!
However, there are some decent people on here also! Have you gotten this one?
I was actually emailed and called "Shallow" because I gave my honest answer to something. Try being a girl on here. You get called so many obscene names and you get emailed from guys wanting to know if you'll do it with them. Don't get me started on poor spelling! Hang in there, it can be a fun site also!

i learned how to masturbated, really but i cant get the semen out though, and i learned that not all people in yahoo answers are good, that they dont answer good, they dont even answer your question which i hate that, they dont even care about you, they only care about themselves, people today are so racist, sexist, sometimes rude, assholes, and their even are greedy, just so they can be on the top ranking of yahoo answer by answering so many questions for just getting the points and stuff. i wish they can aa least be a little better and at least care about other people for real, really i think that we all should do that and god may be happy if we be nice, friendly, cool, understanding, and not racist of other races.THERES YOUR ANSWER, I HOPE YOU LIKE IT VERY MUCH MAN. I have been lucky, I got one answer to a question I really needed and that was what kind of tropical fruit tree was this growing in my front yard............turned out that it is a very rare Black Java Plum. She even provided pics and a link showing the tree. An exact match and i couldn't find it on Google either.

How about how cute is my avatar? Could I be pregnant? Or how about the questions that make no sense. Or the main #1 they never even answer your question. They don't even read the whole question through. You can ask a simple question and truly tick people off. Well, thanks for the chance to vent a bit.
