It's not that hard if your a responsible person. Bearded Dragons are very good with kids under adult supervision ofcourse. They make great pets and have one heck of a personality! Here are a few things you wanna make sure you have when you aquire your new pet:

Tank. Babies can be kept in a 20 gallon tank until they reach about 10-12 inches. The minimum size tank for one adult is a 40 gallon breeder. The deminsions need to be atleast 36" long and 18" wide for an adult. Bigger is always better. If you choose to build your own cage, make sure you choose wood that doesn't have a deadly fume, such as pine, cedar, oak, etc.

Food. Babies and juveniles need to be fed 3 times a day as many as they can eat in 10 minutes which can easily add up to 30-100 crickets per day. Adults need about 30-40 max per week. They need fresh greens available all day. Please visit beautifuldragons.com and click on the Nutrtion Content for a list of foods. There is a color-coded key above for when to feed. Example-The foods written in green can be used everyday as a main staple. The foods in black can be used as treats, etc. There is also a chart for supplementing your dragons food acording to the age.
You need calcium and multivitamin supplements.

Lighting. Beardies require a UVB light for calcium absorbtion. Reptisuns 10.0 and Repti-glos 8.0's are commonly used. UVB bulbs need to be replaced every 6 months. MVB's produce both UVB and heat. They are a little more expensive and are easily borken. So be careful with those. You also need a heat light. You do not have to use baskin spot lamps with UVA from the pet store. Household bulbs work just as well and are cheap. Indoor flood lights can also be used, and use less energy.

Temperatures. Temps need to be measured with either a digital thermometer WITH probe or temp gun. They measure surface temps, which is what you need to measure. For adults, the temps need to be around 105. Juveniles around 105-110 and for babies around 110. Humidity needs to be around 40-45% as beardies are from arid climates, not tropical. Do not use heat mats or hot rocks.

Substrate. Don't use anything loose. Sand developes into small lumps in the digestional track causing impaction. Wal-nut shells, bark, etc can tear up the intestines of the dragon and causes impaction. Loose substrates also hold moisture and harbors bacteria. I use/would use ceramic tiles, slate tiles, non adhesive shelf-liner, paper towels, reptile carpet, newspaper, computer paper, indoor/outdoor carpet with no loops.

Hydration. Beardies need to be kept hydrated. Some people pray their beardies inside the tank. I wouldn't do this because it'll raise the humidity and might cause and respiratory infection. Water bowls can also raise humidity. To keep the beardie hydrated, soak him for 20 minutes in lukewarm water a few times a week. The water should be no higher than his arm pits.

I just wanted to add a few things you should know before you get a beardie. Pet stores will tell you this a that is good and try to get you to guy some things you need that you don't. I hope you choose to get a bearded dragon! They really are such wonderful pets.
