Humanity has lost its ability to distinguish what is natural instinct... we confuse it with emotion and tell ourselves we don't need it.

Isn't that the beauty of life. We are all so precious and fragile at times. We show our strength from this attribute. As opposed to being just a meatball I'd use different descriptive adjectives, like fragile/ delicate. Sensitive, intelligent beings with a great sense of humor. At least we manage to laugh at ourselves and others after witnessing someone fumble, being clouts and bump our elbows (the funny bone),knock our heads on the obvious wall in front of us, etc.
Yes, destructible when we dare to defy gravity and the other obvious variations.
The worst of all....is killing someone with thought or, no thought of the consequences. I would classify myself as a conscientious objector in war and any other form of violence.
Life is short and for some, shorter.

Good question.
It's just ego based on fear. We want to think that we're indestructible and in control of everything. Humans see themselves as separate from nature(hence the trying to tame it but ultimately destroying it). We lost touch with who we are---thinking we're separate from the universe n not a part of it.
It's fear. It's fear of death. It's fear of not being here and knowing others will go on. Everyone is in denial and delusion. It's the arrogance of ego.
"...big meatballs walking around." That's good. lol.

We just like to think we're indestructible because we can't imagine the world going on without us.

Not everyone acts that way.
I've noticed that younger people act like this more than older people with more experience.
I suppose most of it comes from hope, and some of it is just plain ignorance.

You're absolutely right. Humans are fragile, precarious beings. People need to realize how delicate their existence is.
(Except for me. I actually am indestructible.)

we have powerful minds. Even those who're uneducated. We can easily convince ourselves that we're superior to everyone and everything.
