You can find everything you ever wanted to know about medical transcribing on mtstars.com, you can ask on the main board or company board. You'll get lots of advice and you can search the archives. Good luck.

Well most places including temp. agencies where I am from require a degree in Medical trans. or at least 2 years experience...
If this is something that you would want to do from home and are just starting it may be difficult to find. because most places require that you do so much time in office before you can work from home, it has something to do with the workermens comp. insurance is higher.
As far as for what you need.. Good typing skills, Knowledge of terminology, (recorder system to play the tapes with headset, and pedal), program and computer.. which you should half more than half..
It is a good field and you do work at your own pace, the time for completion for your transcripts are flexible.. but don't jump into it thinking that this is something you can do from home right away.. check around in your area.. Check hospital and home health-cares to see if they use transcription services and research their requirements!!
Hope this helped!! Good Luck!!

You would need either to take a training course or to have work experience first. My one friend just completed a course on line and is getting certified. She's having business cards made up, brochures and will seek work by contacting doctors individually.

Look on internet to find out what medical transcription services are located in your region. Many have new type of digital software & transcription equipment which would be costly for you to invest in. The old fashioned dictation machines are outdated anymore.

Consider going to work for a transcription agency.

My grandma is a medical transcriptionist. There are very few jobs open right now(at least in the St. Louis area). You need to be able to type quickly, perferably know shorthand and things like that, and be able to read doctor's handwriting.
