Step by step:

Here we go:

1. Ask for a copy of the Quran and read it. That way, they can see that you are willing to learn about them. It'll open doors you couldn't imagine.

2. If they give you food or water, if it is not perishable, try and ration it because you don't know when you will be given more.

3. If they hold you in a cell, look around for loose bricks or any weapons. Even a pen or a spoon could prove useful. Their buildings are usually made out of poor materials. It could be easy to chisel your way out.

4. Talk to them every chance you get and tell them about yourself. Show them pictures of your family. Let them get to know you as a person (if you can). Most likely, they will tell you to shut the **** up. Don't let it get you down.

5. Greet them with a "salaam aleikum" everytime they come around and tell them that you sympathize with their cause. Tell them you understand what they are going through. Tell them we all believe in the same G-d and that you found the Quran fascinating and that you want to discuss it with them. It will buy you and anyone trying to rescue you more time.

6. Don't panic.

The best thing to do is to make it as personal as you can, unless of course you are in the military. Tell them your name, about your family, where you work, or anything to make them realize that you are a person too. There have been studies that show it is harder to hurt somebody once you begin to think of them as a person instead of an object.
