Pregnancy is a hormonal rollercoaster! Just like the changes in your breasts, joints, circulation, and emotions, hormones affect your basal metabolic rate as well. think of your car. Normally, it "idles" at, oh, about 1500 RPM. If you compare that to a pregnant woman, then you might say the RPMs on your body go up to 3000 RPM. Your caloric intake has to go up (more fuel), your entire system goes into "overdrive" to prepare to create and sustain a whole other person. Temperature changes, sweating, chills etc. are all a part of the joy of motherhood.

During pregnancy everything with your body goes out of whack- your circulation fluctuates to accommodate the increase in blood flow during pregnancy, so that would explain the episodes of hot and cold. I know my hands and feet were always ice cold during all my pregnancies!
