I have a 2000 chevy impala and i'm hearing a noise when I am above 30 mph that sounds like an airplane engine. I have some basic knowledge of cars, and I have allready checked and replaced one of the wheel bearings, and the noise is still there. Is it possible that the cv joints could make this noise? or is it more likely a transmission problem? there is no vibration in the wheel, and if i rev the engine in nuetral, the sound does not change. It only gets louder when the wheels are turning faster, and "winds down" as I slow down. ANY IDEAS?

Boy what could it be, transmission, should make noise in neutral, jacking up the front end and putting it gear do you still hear the noise?? Did you check the rear wheels? Maybe?

One way or another you should be able to duplicate the noise with out it really moving. Try that, and let us know.

Could be tires, could easily be the bearing form other side - the sound goes through entire car. CV-joint - unlikely, so is the tranny.
Go to the garage, when the car is running on the hoist it's easy to find if it's from wheel bearing and if it is, from which side.
If it gets louder when during turns, I'd think the wheel bearing.

Sounds like the tire but the wheeel bearing could be bad even if it is new especially if it was a cheap part from oreilly or autozone .
