My husband has to do an interview over the phone, and I'm wondering if anyone has ever done that and has some tips. Are the questions similar to in person interviews? Did anything catch you off guard? What made things go well??

Make sure you are in a private room for the phone call, no interuptions, make sure you can hear the person clearly.
It can be very much like a real interview and they can throw some hard questions at you. Be prparied, know what the job decription is and review the skills that are needed, possibly use those programs right before hand. The best thing to do is to be honest, and speak clearly, if you don't know tell them or make your best guess.
Many phone interviews are just a step on the way to a person-to-person interview so it might be just to hear the way you speak and how clearly your thoughts are put into words.
That is all the advice I can think of, but be prepaired for a few phone interviews, one can turn into 5 in no time flat, you can have people from different departments wanting to know different things, and they can throw odd questions like "do you have pets."
The best advice is to prepare for it like you would an in person interview, that way even if it is a 2 minute hi-bye converstaion you were at least ready for anything.

The phone interview is a screening by an HR person to see if you are qualified to come in for an in person interview.

The questions are very general, not technical. They will ask about salary expectations, say it's negotiable.

Make sure there are no interruptions or background noises.
