Because I hear this as the justification, from intelligent Americans, for the US military actions post 9/11. They honestly believe that it was about stamping out those that perpetrated that act of terrorism.
How does this correlate with the fact that:
- 12 of the 14 hijackers were Saudi Arabians
- that US military personnel were already stationed outside of Afghanistan two days before 9/11 and plans were already drawn up for strikes
- that Saddam had nothing to do with it
- that Iraq had nothing to do with it
- that Afghanistan had nothing to do with it
Is the population of the entire Middle East seen now as the perpetrators for 9/11?

In reply to lancelot who said "Osama bin Laden had everything to do with it."
Says who?
From a videotape that US intelligence relied on for evidence of a connection, his reaction was one of surprise. He was glad it happened, granted, and he would have been even glad to take credit, but as it happened there still is no evidence linking Osama Bin Laden.

In reply to Shell who believes that I have no grounds to believe the military had already made plans to attack Afghanistan

It was common knowledge over in the UK weeks after the attack. I'm not making it up.

And in reply to INBND who thinks I haven't done my research:
At no point have I said that Bush said Saddam was involved, I know he didn't, however, he more than once made the inference. He three times used "9/11" in the same sentence as "Saddam". And repeatedly linked Saddam with Al-Qaeda, the group believed to be responsible.
NB: There is no connection between Saddam and Al-Qaeda.

The true problem here is that all of the arab countries in the middle east are basically connected through petroleum funds, through weapons deals and through trade.
First of all, IRAQ was crippled by America's economic sanctions imposed on it by the first Bush administration and then by the Clinton Administration.
Iraq was in absolutely no condition to wage war on ANYBODY.
The whole idea of Iraq trying to buy nuclear weapon materials, "yellow cake" ( uranium powder) to refine it, was a joke. Have you any idea how much it would cost to enrich Uranium...not to mention that Saddam would have to somehow come up with a way to finance a launching platform for rockets or missiles.
Its absolutely ludacris.
Yes Saddam was a bad man. Yes he had committed many atrocities to his own people but, Saddam Hussein had likely no connection to the 9/11 attacks WITH THE EXCEPTION that he was an ARAB and in an ARAB country that was connected with the Saudis and Afghanis through petro dollars.
What America doesn't want to admit is that when we buy oil from the middle east, we are funding terrorism. We are funding terrorist countries. We are funding terrorist ideologies.
Without our petro dollars, Saddam as well as all the other royal arab families wouldn't be able to support themselves.
America uses more energy than the rest of the world combined and its only gotten worse with our war raging on.
You are absolutely right. The truth behind 9//1 is that the terrorists were financed by, and ethnicaly connected to Saudi Arabia.
Saudi's are not our friends, they are our enemies. The only reason we depend on them is because we don't have our own energy reserves.
As for American military being stationed outside Afghanistan, keep in mind that even the Clinton Administration knew about the dangers of Osama Bin Ladin. Also keep in mind that after the bombing of the US Cole, America was conducting low level anti-terrorism manuevers in many Arab countries.
I don't believe Saddam had anything to do with 9/11.
I believe the Iraq war is a waste of Americas resources and human life and I believe the entire Executive branch should be impeached for lying to the American people.
To me personally, Bush doesn't seem intelligent enough to mastermind a global conspiracy. If 9/11 were really a conspiracy then I am certain that there were people BEHIND bush planning this and just using him as a figurehead.
To me, 9/11 and all the scare tactics that followed it would seem like a masterpiece of planning.
Why is it that everything is happening NOW all the sudden? Am I to believe the arabs were plotting and planning for centuries to wait till 9/11/01 to change the world as we know it and jeopardize their safety and religion to America, Nato and Israel?
It seems to me that even the arab terrorists would be smart enough to understand that by committing the 9/11 crimes they would be opening up a door of unprecendented world warfare that would most likely only end with their demise.
Sure you could use Achem's Razor and just accept that some well funded arabs put a plan together to hijack some airplanes and crash them into American status symbols out of anger....
..but it just seems too ridiculous.

Bush and the other nutcase Neocons had to have something to justify going into Iraq and stealing oil.
So to win America over on the idea they had to use SCARE TACTICS to do this. What better way then to claim Iraq was involved with 9/11.
Of course Bush, Cheney, and the other oil guys looked at all the oil in Iraq and were damned if they were gonna let Saddam have it, hence Saddam and 9/11.
Click this link on to find the truth about why Bush and the boys wanted 9/11 and how they tried linking it to Saddam. http://www.prisonplanet.com/
SADDAM HATED BIN LADEN!!! They never trained in Iraq, they never supported al-qaeda (that's how its spelled nimrods) in fact Saddam thought Bin Laden was trouble and a threat to himself. All these are fact and documented.

I've heard some interesting, some crazy, and some just plain wierd conspiracy theories before but....
lately I've keep hearing this conspiracy theory about President Bush that he was behind the 9/11 attacks
so that he would have an excuse to invade Afganistan.
So my question is.... does anyone actually believe this C+ college student, who has difficulty pronouncing
every 5th word, somehow engineered the crime of the century, and in addition to that got at least 10-20
other like minded conservative religious republicans people to go along with it , killing 3,000+ Americans,
cost his own country hundreds of Billions, all so he would have an excuse to invade a country that has
absolutely nothing (not even oil), but dirt and a bunch of poor muslims? (Afganistan) .
And in addition to above, he did it so well that the only evidence of it is a bunch of VERY shaky,
usually proven false coincidences?
Now really, does this make any sense what-so-ever?
And you call Bush stupid?

I don't, I have read the 911 commission report and the supporting testimony on this subject.
Saddam did not like Al Qaeda or Bin Laden.
Saddam was a paranoid dictator and also not a religious one. He would never let an independent paramilitary group operate from within Iraq, especially a group filled with religious fanatics.
The first rule in war is :"Know Thy Enemy."
Apparently some people have forgotten this.

,Bush never pinned blame for the attacks directly on the Iraqi president. Still, the overall effect was to reinforce an impression that persists among much of the American public: that the Iraqi dictator did play a direct role in the attacks. A New York Times/CBS poll this week shows that 45 percent of Americans believe Mr. Hussein was "personally involved" in Sept. 11, about the same figure as a month ago.

Osama bin Laden had everything to do with it.
Afghanistan was the country who housed and protected him
Iraq was an Al Quaeda training ground.
Saddam Allowed Al-Quaeda to train in his country.
Those are just the fact's as we know them...
Justification for war in Afghanistan: 9/11 and the fact that they where the Country who essentially was Al-Quaeda.
Justification for war in Iraq: UN Resolution 1441 and World approval for taking control of Iraq. (Sorry they did not ask for your approval)
The middle east just happens to be the training grounds for terrorism. This is where the terrorism starts and where it will hopefully end.
Sounds like if it was up to you, we would be dealing with it here..

How could you know that plans were already drawn up?
Did the military disclose this vital information only to you?
If this were true, don't you believe that CNN would have found out by now? But you did?
Those people have al quada camps to train terriorists.
There books they teach children in school is to kill Americans.
When news of this terrible tradgey was let out they danced in the streets celebrateing because Americans were killed.
This is etched in the minds of all Americans as we watched in horror while thousands of innocent people were blown to pieces.
Firemen were killed, children's in the airplanes.
Did they feel one shred of pitty for the Americans. No they celebrated. I feel we should do the same when we see they get blown up. Yet we don't celebrate your deaths.
You are still demonstrateing over there for death to America
While thousands of service men are dieing to protect your democracy. Who is the real monsters?

I never thought Iraq had anything to do with 9/11
It was all about the UN resolutions that were being ignored by Saddam. These were two different issue in a relatively short time frame.

Ok, where is your proof that Bush said Sadaam was involved with 9/11. That's because there is none because he didn't say that. After 9/11, the world changed. Bush said he would go after terrorists and countries that harbor and train them. Iraq is one of those countries. Quit listening to what your mommy and daddy tell you and talk to people or research something before you go making claims.

i don't think that they had much part in it i've seen some reports that claimed some of the 9-11 morons had been to iraq and possibly had contact with people in the upper government but i still think the only way to accomplish some thing of that nature would have to be a need to know and i think the real base of operation was in afghanstan and that all the countries in that region have many people that hate us and want us dead so there really isn't much logical reason to assert that as proof the hand a hand in it the thing i keep seeing is that we are the ones that trained bin laden while the soviets were occupying afghanistan he got mad at us when we cut his funding it really is any ones guess but i have my doubts see
