I personally never have, but I work in casting for a tv show that does have bodies. It's actually a pretty intense thing to be chosen as a corps. You have to audition and you do have to be a member of SAG. The actors work hard too. They need to be availble for makeup. And they basically lay around partially naked. They get paid the day rate and a bit more if they are needed for several scenes.

However, extra work is okay if you have never appeared in a film or television program. You get to see the workings of film and tv. Don't do it as a steady gig, although, many actors do. You don't want to be classified as an "Extra." There are times, although not frequent, when an extra gets upgraded to a speaking role.
