Usually I spot for 4-5 days, then get my flow for 3-4 days then spot some more for 3-4 days. My doc said to start the pills on the first day of my period so when I started spotting I started the pills. It's been about a week and I haven't got my period and the spotting stopped on day 2. Is this normal?

You may have thrown your cycle "off track" a little by starting the pill when you were spotting versus actually flowing. It's perfectly normal to have spotting when you first start BC pills. Your body is in the process of being regulated with the extra hormones from the pill. I would continue with the current pack for another month. If you still don't get your period (after 2 months) then you should consult your doctor.

BIRTH CONTROL DOES NOT CAUSE CANCER!!! FOR THE DUMMY WHO DOESNT KNOW ANYTHING.....i've been on birth control for 9 years and i'm perfectly fine. There are a lot of scary side effects that you will read but there is a very small chance of them happening, they have to be listed if there is even 1/2 % chance of them happening.okay, now to get to your question...
Thats cuz your taking your active pills, you get your period usually about 2 days into your in-active pills (the last row), they are not birth control, usually sugar pills or depending on what kind you have, they may be iron pills....we lose a lot of iron during our period. Once your body gets used to them you shouldnt be spotting in between your periods, unless your missing pills or not taking them the same time every day. Remember, first 3 rows are active pills, the last row is in-active (time to get your period) pills, if you continue on the active pills then you dont get a period....i used to cheat that way sometimes if i like had a hot weekend coming up with my boyfriend and i was gonna have my period or if your going on a vacation and dont want your period during it.....or just plain dont wanna deal with the cramps and bloating...all you have to do is skip the last week and continue into a new pack...wala, no period....

Yes. The pill is going to dictate when you get your period so you shouldn't get one at all until you finish the first 3 weeks (or 11 weeks if you're on Seasonale).

You might spot a bit in the middle, but that should go away in a couple of months.

Starting the pill before your regular period will stop it from coming until you've taken approximately 21 pills (if you are on a regular pill and not one of those 3 month ones)

Are you using progesterone/estrogen , or just one pill? you started too soon, and if it causes pain , you will need to return to that 'doctor'. for a check up. If it isn't painful, don't worry-- at least not till the cancer starts to eat you alive.. Every form of birth control causes cancer eventuallly, and if you can live without it , you should not take it at all, ever.. The ONLY birth control that works is abstinence.. Find an RN in your church or neighborhood to teach you about b.c.pill and it's effects, please.
