anyone else here thinks the idea of reference is used too much?

for academic papers..
I mean...what is the point if people are just gonna cite from older papers...and then us students have to cite the people who cited other people
basically, it's ideas being used over and over again and I'm sick of it...if it's like this it is not original idea anyway so why do people keep writing stuff and cite other people and then claim that they're basically pointing out important points or weaknesses when in facr these people clearly have nothing better to do
i think if the idea is not like can make money, there's no point referencing it...especially if it's common sense
the idea of reference is used way too much..

true but more people are afraid of not giving the credit where credit is due. we have became a world of lawsuits and plagerizism (sorry about the spelling)

I see what you mean..they keep reworking the same old song. I never thought of it this way before...but you make a good point. Time to go onto the new and unexplored...and the original. After a while...it's just "another opinion" subject to interpretation.
