...disappointing our children, by verbal and physical abuse, and neglect? Do you think teenage suicide, and instances of violence like Columbine, are directly related to lack of attention towards our kids? I'm not just talking about parents. I mean teachers, clergy, law enforcement officials, and the government. Are adults really listening to what kids are saying these days?

As a 16 year old, I say no we are not being listened to. It is like the things we say go UN heard, making us resort to other ways. It is hard when adults, or the people we look up to demand our attention, and that we listen and follow what they are telling us to do but never listen to us or give us the time to speak our minds, however in the same breath they are downing us.They teach one thing, but do another, leaving us bitter and confused, leaving us to lean on one another. One blind dog can't lead another, but it seems as if we are left to do so. I am tired of not being heard, you hear what you want to hear, and to adults you see our mouths moving, but don't hear us talking, you see our eyes, but you can't open yours to see our silent cries. We as young people are left without a voice, when we are the ones that should be heard! You think we are dumb, mindless, be we are far from it, intelligent beyond means, but your are too worried about you, trying to find answers instead of solutions, now that is what is dumb.Lets just hope that when you realize that sometimes you should hush and just listen, it won't be too late. LISTEN!

Disappointing our children, by verbal and physical abuse, and neglect? Disappointing...no. Letting them down...yes.
Do you think teenage suicide, and instances of violence like Columbine, are directly related to lack of attention towards our kids? I do. I think it's a direct result of a parenting style that allows kids to be treated like "grown-ups." and blurring the line between right and wrong.
Are adults really listening to what kids are saying these days? I'm not so sure it's the adults that need to be listening to the kids. I think it's the other way around. Kids need discipline and not relativism. Now, if the kids are saying, "Help me figure out the right way to act!" then no, I don't always think the adults hear that.

No, I don't think adults are listening. I was a very rebellious kid that got into a lot of trouble. I blame it on the fact that my parents ignored me and didn't spend time with me. I spend all my spare time with my kids. We do everything together. If they get into sports I am at every game if I can be. I sometimes drive hours. I talk to my kids about everything and pay real close attention to their emotions and feelings. Not many parents out there that do this.

I think kids are exposed to too much violence in everyday life, and that's more of the problem than attention. Kids see it everywhere: in video, media, movies, music. It's a sign of the times.

many adults say they concern but when kids say their problem, adults just say I'm busy.
Or they seems listening but they mind keep thinking about work.

It all in what they are taught..and if they hold to the values...I took my 4 year old swimming and the lady putting on her bracelet nearly fell over when my daughter said thank you to her...without any prompting from me....The lady said that was the first thank you she heard from a child......I felt mighty proud.
