I am making a pair of knit gauchos. I have seen some in the stores that are not hemmed and they kind of curl up at the bottom. I was wondering how they do that. I have tried ripping it and cutting it and then stretching it. I am out of ideas. Any would help. Thank you.

My daughter has a pair that has a rolled hem. I make this with a serger, but there is a way to do it on a sewing machine - it is not as clean though. One word of caution - take care not to stretch the knit or you will end up with a ruffly edge hem - a lettuce edge - this is the voice of experience talking.

I'm not sure if you are meaning that you are using a "jersey stitch"...? I've never heard of such a stitch... or maybe you are talking about type of yarn... so maybe this answer won't help at all. I know that stockinette stitch curls up if that is what you are wanting. If you are working in a different type of stitch, maybe you could add stockinette at the ends without it looking too funny and have this part curl up. Just a thought, but not sure if that's what you are wanting.
