Depending on the trucking company a person can make good money driving truck.. the down side is the amount of time you spend away from home like drive mon-fri and home on sat/sun... unless you can get on with a company who handles local deliverys.. then you are home every night

I did this for 20 years.. they bark about great money and benifits but the truth is trucking is a rough sport hun..In construction its a kidney buster at best.. Sure you can get good wages 13-17 and hour but it is physically demanding and few companies think you should have a working AC even though it is LAW that they be in good working order.. The DOT simply WON'T enforce that..People in traffic hate you, cops hate you and usually.. your boss.. hates you.. Long haul?.. Thats like being a Biker or a military personel. IT IS A WAY OF LIFE not a job.. if you have No ties to lovers or children and love the freedom of being alone its a good life.. But the trucking industry is probably responsible for more divorces than infidelity..women get lonely and its just a case of when not if they will seek comfort.. the same goes for the person OUT on the road.. it is a very lonely profession.. you go into dangerous areas at odd hours and driving is in the top 3 "most dangerous professions".it is more dangrous than most police work. I can sit here and tell you horror stories, but it isn't all bad..For instance you hear about Hunts Point New York allot.. I've been in there over a dozen times with NO problems..it is a VERY dangerous lot, I won't kid you, but if you steer clear of the hookers and the drug dealers?..Just go in and drop your load and get out?.. you have a 99% chance of NO trouble at all. Any driver who knows Hunts, Port Jersey, Long beach or other dangerous drop points will tell you the same... "get in, get out..NEXT" NO fooling around..it is "A JOB" there are no easy streets or free rides, there's allot of great folks out there and there are dangers.. Carry a gun , I used a 45 auto my Pitbull took off a guy who was trying to ambush me at the Manhatten Kansas rest area. He was waiting behind the rig and the dog suprised him.. he left a blood trail and he fropped this beautiful nickel plated weapon loaded with hollow point stingers..SO CARRY A GUN and watch what's going on around you carefully and you will be fine.. AS for wages long haul.. 50 60 K a year sounds great, but when you break that down between the miles you drive (what you are paid for) and the hours you work?.. its a bout 3-6 bucks an hour.. YOU WILL WORK YOUR ARZE OFF sweetie..Like any job.. if you don't love it going in.. you'll hate it and regret it the whole time..trucking you may learn to hate..even iff you think you love it at first.. When you drive long haul you ARE married to your job...no bones about it

My hubby has his CDL's . He has to have him because he's Rig operator in the oil feild industry. I won't tell you exactly what he makes but let'sjust say I don't work because I don't have too. Bad part about it is that he works away all time and we aren't ever really sure when he's going to come home. When he does come home though it's usually for about a week at a time. So, that's pretty nice
