They will eat cheese (especially grilled cheese sandwiches), but my pet mice have battles in the cage over bits of brownie.

Real mice will eat almost anything. A friend of mine found evidence recently that a mouse ate Over'n'Out ant poison, but didn't find the mouse. But they're really not wild about cheese. One article I read said they prefer gumdrops to cheese. Peanut butter makes excellent bait for a trap.
Interestingly enough, it's cats who love cheese.
And mageta8 is wrong about the margarine. Plenty of animals will eat margarine.

it depends on the mice my friend had 2 mice and 1 liked cheese and the other hated cheese

Some mice do and some don't...feed cheese sparingly.....this isn't real good for a mouse to eat regularly. They don't digest cheese well.

If extremely hungry a mouse will eat cheese. It's mostly a tv thing. Peanuts or peanut butter are among favoirites and reasearch as of late says enjoy sweet foods to like people

real mice loves anything food wise, but thet can't resist peanut butter. I always use that to bait a mouse trap.

I have two baby mice and neither of them seem to like cheese; they DO like peanut butter, though. ;)

They like just about ANYTHING! Cheese is used in traps because it is oily & soft & the smell attracts the mouse enough to make them want to try to take it off the trap & back to their eating spot.
