good work ethic, hands down. the others have very little impact on Japan's economy. the country has high productivity, and then exported their goods to other countries.

Good work ethic more than the others.
But what's REALLY made them an economic superpower is their inventiveness and their skill at marketing. They come up with the craziest, awesomest ideas and sell them by the billions.
Hello Kitty is a good example.
My dad owns a collection of Hello Kitty kitchen appliances. If they can get a middle aged white male to buy a rice cooker with a picture of a pink cat on it, they can get anyone to buy anything.

japan was abel to become a world economic superpower by hard work and U.S. enginers.
after ww2 japan had nothing and was abel to start out from scratch. thay did not have old machinery holding them back like the rest of the world. thay were abet to start off on a clean slate.
also thay were give some of the best enginers that America had to offer. thay were enginers with new ways that wernt being taken serious over here. so thay went to japan with there new ideas and were welcomed and used as best as possible.

I suppose you could argue the work ethic thing, but I believe it was mainly US aid. Mainly in the form of favorable trade deals and rebuilding assistance in the post-WWII era. "Made in Japan" meant nothing in 1946, but in the decades that followed it became an indicator of quality (especially in cars and electronics). The US provided an open and easily accessible market for their products, and allowed their industries to mature while still making money through exports to the US and elsewhere.
Short questions, long answer. Have at it.

All crap...
Marshall Plan (=free US $$$$) to rebuild the entire country after WWII. The good work ethic is secondary, the rest are nonsense, there's no correlation between economic success and military spending.

None of the above. It was an American invention that had lingered on a laboratory shelf for years: The transistor.
