I think you could rent it if the person went with you and also listed you as a driver. I am not sure if you could rent it over the internet and then pick it up.

The person with the credit card has to be the driver of a rented car.

My friend did this in the following manner:
Called the rental car company ahead of time and explained she would be using someone else's card (her mother)
Arrived at the rental counter with a letter of authorization from the mother. Signature matched that on the credit card.
Agreed to take every insurance offered.
The mother also notified the credit card company in advance as to what was happening.
That was a couple of years ago. Best to call the car rental company instead of taking advice on this board - including mine.

No..but you can rent with a debit card or in some places, cash (with an additional deposit put down). You did not say where you were looking to rent a car so I cannot help u further.

Only if the person named on the credit card is present. I know of no car rental company who will just take your word for it, that a friend, or family member aurthorized you to use their card.

Legally, no. However, not everyone checks so closely. Most places do match the driver's license to the credit card, though.

As long as the owner of the credit card is there to sign for the charge, I think it should be OK.

Probably, my Friend used my card to purchase airline tickets. The agent called to ask my permission and then it was good to go, so probably you could but they may call your Friend to.
