Should I join my teacher's union even though part of my dues will go towards [insert Democrat]'s campaign?

I like the possibility of discounts on services (but discounts for me usually don't add up to the amount I end up spending for them), the liability insurance, and the benefits, but I support school choice, merit pay, and don't agree with them medling in non-school issues like abortion, Iraq, etc., regardless of position. Additionally, more delegates at the 2004 Dem convention were from the teachers unions than any other organization or one state.

By benefits, I meant the benefits offered through the job. Our salary schedule looks like everyone else's in Florida plus or minus $500 or whatever, but while they are taking health deductions, I am not.

Don't you think that the benefits of joining a union outweigh those issues?

Ok, for those that know me I am as far left as you can get, I even have claimed Rush to be liberal at times.

But if you have a good union, do they really represent thier teachers, do they actually offer help if you are given warning or fired. do they offer strike benifits or extra retirmenet beifits.

If they will be of service to you, then by all means take care of yourself.

By in large most teachers unions are part of the reason for the lower levels of eduction we have today

NO!! You are not required to join the union and I think Unions should stay out of the political process and your dues should go strictly to the union and no where else.

Do research... but I remind you that Unions are there to protect you.

Screw all unions. All they do is collect your dues and never do anything for you.

hahaha... you shouldn't... because you don't believe in it's ideas..

but ... I still don't understand how you support all those ideas that I've never seen any proof that they work anywhere? like school choice
