When a guy REALLY loves you; you'll feel that you're well cared for, he'll tell you the truth no matter what, he'll put up with all that is negative about you (or what you're doing) but he won't hesitate pointing it out to you so you could be better (at whatever it may be), you'll feel confident that he'll protect you no matter what, you're his top priority (except maybe when you have kids), he'll go out of his way to accommodate your needs & wants, he spends quality time (have fun and all) with you, he communicates with you, he respects you and what you stand for / believe in, you're his best friend, and of course, even if he doesn't say it often, when he looks at you and smile, you feel it's really there.

Do you believe in him? If so trust what he says until he gives reasons not to! Do he treat you well? Do he do things for you without you asking? Do he sincerely ask about your day and be attentive when you speak? If you answer these questions with a yes and your heart is thumping thing you know yourself that he loves you!

i think it would depend on how well you know this guy . if you know him well then you could look in his eye's when he Say's he loves you . and maybe you can tell if he is being sincere. the eye's are after all the window to the soul . they don't lie.

sometimes you need to know a guy for a while, say a few months and go out with him to different places to see how he is with everyone and at different places and see how he is to you in those places and around all kinds of people. it is hard to know, but the longer you know him and about him, the more you can understand his intentions for you.

Actions speak louder than words. If he is a good guy, doesn't dis you, doesn't get violent on you, then he likes you. If he's saying one thing and then doing another, then he's dishonest deep inside.
