work which i did for ten years the first day back i dreaded it hot crappy pay and no breaks so should i hold out for a better job and take unemployment or pound my way thru this new job

It's often easier to find a new job if you have a job than if you are unemployed. I would keep the crappy job for now but actively search for a better job elsewhere.

Its always better to keep working..
Though some potential employers would be critical of that.
From my working experience, if you didnt get a good job
now. Your probably not going to be offered anything better than what you got now.
Unless, you further your training or education.
