We Have been trying to grow Sweet Corn in our East Tenessee Garden for four years without any luck. It gets about 4 1/2 feet tall then starts turning yellow and stops growing before the ears develop, We have been watering 3-4 times a week and use a fertilizer packaged for gardens. A couple things I wonder about, does sweet corn need a certain fertilizer not included in the standard gardin mix we are applying? Or, is our plot too small to pollinate properly, (4 rows about 5 feet long). Or is it something else. We come from Northern Illinois, No problem there. There is good sweet corn grown here our farmers market has good corn every year. Any one have any ideas what our problem(s) could be? Thanks!

Sounds like you're doing all the right things. Maybe too much though. I would side dress the corn once when it is about 1 ft tall w/ 10-10-10.
I used to grow a small amount like you do, but it seems to be more trouble than it's worth. Some of these road side stands have terrific corn for a reasonable price. I buy it throughout the season and don't have to pick it when I don't want to.
It's been a great growing season here in upstate NY. I've never seen the corn so green or tall.

You should be able to have a soil sample test by your local county extension agent for a nominal fee. I'm guessing that poor soil is the problem. Among other things, corn needs a lot of nitrogen to do well. The soil test will determine what you need to add to your soil so your corn does well.

Good luck with your gardening.

i love sparkling white corn the perfect. even as it truly is provided in early spring summer season it really is the perfect vegetable. only cook dinner it slightly and butter and devour. Or for something slightly diverse i want to diminish the corn of the cob and saute it with peppers and onions. Thats astounding besides. i love carrots yet dont devour them that regularly as they troublesome for me to swallow. in no way been an outstanding fan of cauliflower.
