Ever noticed how Kasey Kahne, Brian Vickers, and Dale Jr. seem to be the most popular drivers because of their looks? I think it's just fine to be attracted to the drivers and root for them...but is it just because of looks alone? What about driving ability? Thoughts on this?

This is one of my biggest pet peeves.. It drives me absolutey crazy that someone will root for them only b/c they are cute, and then try to bag on another driver's skills when they don't even judge skills of their own driver. UGH
Now here's my thing.. Mopst of the "cute" drivers are also somewhat talented..
Now don't get me wrong.. I will openly admit when I think someone is attrative or whatnot..but like hell if I would have home depot orange on my body if the man couldn't drive.
Heck everyonce in a while I'll sneak on some dupont colors..and turst me.. the thought of thinking as that man as attractive makes me nat to throw up a little.

Kasey has won 4 times this year!! More than any other driver!
Dale Jr. has won the daytona 500!! He has also won a race this year and until recently was in the top 10.
Brian Vicker is switching teams and everyone is wants to know if he can win before the switch. Plus the last few tracks (Pocono) he has always been very competitive. He has also won a Bush championship.
They can drive!!

The answer is...
They're not really "cute". If those guys were working at a 7-11 nobody would pay the slightest bit of attention to them. Just like the Tommy Lee and Kid Rock, if they approached the average woman without their "rock star" credentials, she would be reaching for the pepper spray.
Come on, look at Dale Jr. He's a nerd deluxe. He may be a great guy, a great driver, but he's a NERD. Yet he's considered the most desirable guy in Nascar?

Everything's about the total package - I'll bet there are other "handsome" drivers who don't get coverage since they're not winners. I'm not a racing fan, but I recognize the names you mentioned because I've seen ads where they're featured or at least heard the name (except for Vickers).
And yes, I *definitely* know who Danica Patrick is - IRL, not NASCAR, but so what? : )
But it's just part of the overall entertainment industry - this sort of thing happens in Hollywood, in the music business.....everywhere. The more talented are often overlooked for the "pretty" people - style over substance, unfortunately.

Hm, I think that all 3 of them are talented. They have all accomplished SOMETHING in racing. Junior~ 2 Busch championships, 21 Busch wins, 17 Nextel wins, & hopefully will get a Nextel Championship at some point. Kasey~ I don't know all of his stats, but he's won 4 races this year, that says something. Brian~ Hasn't won a race yet, but has been very competitive lately & hopefully will have more success with Red Bull next year.
Seems to me that these drivers aren't popular for just looks alone, they have talent!

I am a hudge Kasey fan here. I like Kasey because he is a great driver. He is one of the most respectful drivers. Kasey is also cute. I like how he drives and his attadud. Jr is popular because of his dad. Jr. can drive but he has his dad's and Granddad's names. Brian is cute but he can drive and has a good attidude. They all are good looking but they all can drive. They also are respectful drivers. There driving abilies are also in there popularity. They can all win. Brian is going to get his first win soon. Jr is going to win another time this season. Kasey is going to win alot of races in his racing life. same with jr and Vickers.

I think that they are all good drivers if they werent they wouldnot be in NASCAR. As for their looks The only one that is even worth staring at is Dale JR. My husbans looks like him only blond (god am I lucky?) N-E-Ways.... Jr is such a big name because of his Dad and he is just a really nice down to earth guy. I really dont know about the other 2 But I can tell youthis Tont Stewert has a HUGE fallowing and he is not very good looking in a "hot" sort of way hes more like a teddy bear...yah a big agressive teddy bear...
I really don't think that looks matter all that much.

I think driving ability is what creates a true "fan"!
I think most of the drivers have some fans just because of looks, but they are usually groupies who don't really understand the sport and what it is about! It's a mockery really!
Sure my two favorite drivers are very attractive, but in my opinion MOST of the guys in Nascar are somewhat attractive, but the difference is I was a fan before I really saw either of their faces!

I can't believe Dale Jr. is considered 'cute'. If he didn't race cars, you would think he was some nasty redneck and wouldn't look twice at him.
I think it is just because they are have the best sponsors and are in commercials, so they get the most attention.

Personally I think it is because there are more and more female fans getting into the sport only because they think some driver is ''cute'' or ''hot''. Even though most of them will not admit it.
