I am assuming that your vehicle is already converted from R12 to R 134a? If it is then the hose to recharge the system will only fit on the low side ,so it's almost foolproof. Not sure if it's the top or bottom hose but like I said the hose will only attach to the LOW side.

The low pressure side will always be larger than the the high pressure side. If there is a valve on that larger pipe between the compressor and the evaporator. This point will charge the whole system. Although being a '91, it'll take the R-12 freon which will be expensive. Just an opinion, have you concidered a retrofit to R-134a?

Your vehicle is probabally equipped with the original A/C system. Hence the black cap. This means that you cannot recharge it with the freon you have bought. Either take the vehicle to a professional to have it recharged with the old-style freon, or have it retrofitted for the new freon. Which requires a trip to a professional to have the old refrigerant sucked out of the system.
With the new refrigerant you will have to replace the orifice tube, accumulator and the fittings.
The cost for retro-fitting is close to the cost of just recharging the old system properly.

The suction side of the a/c will be larger than the liquid or pressure side. It will also lead from the compressor to the accumulator which is a large vertical silver cylinder near the firewall.
Yes it will charge the back as well as the front.

the recharge kit (sounds like what you are using) will only hook up to the low side (ports are different sizes) yes it will also charge the rear, the rear has a seperate evaporator but is hooked into the front system using the same compressor, if the system keeps getting low on freon you should have it inspected for a leak, the a/c system is sealed so it shouldn't get low
