racism could be eradicated?
African people are the founders of civilization. Astronomy. mathematics, medicine, masonry and monotheism was first discovered and embraced by African people. These are facts that many people deny because of ignorance or blantant racism. My favorite denial of African achievement is that the Egyptians were not Africans. do you think a better educational system could bring people together in peace?

Like I said, my favorite denial of African achievement is that the Ancient Egyptians were not black Africans. did you know that before the greeks labeled Egypt it was called Kemet "the land of the blacks"? did you known that Arabs were not in Egypt until the Arab invasion around 620 ad? Have you seen pictures of the ancient Egyptians on tombs or temples? Are they all not as dark as any African American? It is racism that denies the black African foundation of Kemet(egypt)

Some people are so block headed that no amount of fact will change their opinion, regardless of the issue. That is THEIR problem, not that of an African American. I live in Alabama and I can tell you that there are still people who are true racists, but they are few and far between.
A good analogy of the issue is an old wound. Slavery and the persecution of blacks, even long after slavery, was the wound inflicted on black Americans. In the last 40 years, that festering wound was cleaned and bandaged by strong leaders and people who took a stand against the discrimination that existed all across the country. As all wounds do, it left a scar. Now, many people who have good intentions can't or don't want to see the healing that has taken place, so they keep ripping open the scar and creating the illusion of racism by using the division that they create as an example. They do this because in their minds, the civil rights movement in the 60's was the glory days, and they want to "keep their job" as the leaders of a movement that has in reality, achieved it's objective. Sure, there is still racism out there, but let those few think what they think. Black Americans have a lot more people on their side than they are led to believe by their leaders.
So no, you can't change the die hard racists. But we can, as a country, ignore them.

Yes, a better education system will always help. But, I don't think that empowering one group of people or another is good. If you define "African" as anyone living in Africa, then this can include people of Dutch and English descent. What your question implies is that the teachings of "races" are correct. However, we are all members of the human race. NONE of us are genetically different enough to break off and form our own race [which is the precursor to a new species]. I believe that our education system should show the great achievements of the human race and not forget our darkest hours. It should illustrate how wrong it is to think of people as being members of a race, as a "race" generally is defined by skin color. Genetically, all people within one "racial" community are more different than "inter-racial" communities.
Yes, we all did originate in Africa, but cultures formed and spread throughout the globe. We should embrace the earliest civilizations of the world in order to support human achievement, and study other forms of society [band, tribe, chiefdom] to learn about all the ways that people have live. [College classes do put forth the idea that no one way of life is better than another, just as no one people should be pedestalled.]
In short, racism cannot be eradicated by improving the education of "white people" on "African contributions to humanity." It can only be done with humanist teachings, which will make people of being in the human race, and the human race alone.

*Note: In Egypt, monotheism was very briefly embraced, as Amarna was destroyed after the death of the pharoah who had eliminated all the deities except for Atum-Ra. Also, I have seen Egyptian artwork showing people of different skin colors working together.

Egypt is on the African continent, yes, but Egypt had and even today has a completely different culture and ethnic composition than sub-Saharan Africa.

Honestly, I think if we want racism eradicated, we need to eradicate it in all forms. Keeping any racism around only encourages it more. You can't pretend to hate racism and still be for affirmative action and similar policies. You show me why Black History Month, the United ***** College Fund and Black Entertainment Television aren't racist, but White History Month, the United White College Fund and White Entertainment Television would be, and I think that will answer your question.

OK, but it sounds a bit like propaganda to me. Didn't the Arabs, Persians and other peoples from Eastern Turkestan make the first contributions to astronomy, mathematics and masonry? It reminds me of the old saying "Russia is the motherland of elephants." Meaning - in Russia during Soviet times they used to like to take credit for everyone else's inventions and discoveries. Having said that, I am open to being properly educated about the contributions made by African peoples to civilization and culture. I believe all people were descended from common African ancestors and racism is only harmful and ignorant.

i agree with the first answer.

some people love to be ignorant no matter what you put in front of them.

just look at some of the answers you recieved.
regarding progress in africa the egyptians

people will never WHOLELY get it unfortunately.

It is a sweet thought but truthfully I would rather racism exist. I like hateing people that hate me as I am sure they like being hated as well.

Like I said some people will be ignorant no matter what you put in front of them.

You see how many will confront you with things that happen WITHIN AMERICAS racist structure and they will try to use that, but that is all they know. BET, Black history, these things all came about to SHOW us culture. WE HAVE NO CULTURE in AMERICA. WHITE peoples ancestors RAN from their countries, WE were promised 40 acres and a MULE that is where that comes from.

I could go on and on the point is f**k people and what they believe. Develop you own system of principles and when people break them deal with them accordingly

this is my policy. I am not black, white etc. I am an Aberrantly principled individual. According to my own standard. Does it make me a bigot, certainly, but I am not the first bigot or the last

and when you are born in a propaganda induced country

what can you really believe in but yourself...you feel me.

I even saw a white person say that black folks dont have red hair...

now you know the hair on the back of my neck went up.

misinformed

Are you really talking about anyone on the African continent or blacks? I get the feeling you mean blacks. Yes, education would certainly be a start. The
problem is, I know many educated people that are now prejudiced against
muslims because of what is going on in the world right now. Is it truly education that is the problem? I am not sure. Wish I had an answer to this
dilema.

For the most part educated people are not racist. I have seen surveys that show the higher your degree of education the less racists you are, this is true for people of all color and all types of racism.

Personally I think you are being a bit racist refering to all blacks as Africans. You may as well refer to everybody as Africans, we all came from the cradle. Otherwise I think you should refer to blacks by their actual and different races. If you are talking about all blacks than just call them blacks because they aren't all from Africa and not everybody in Africa is black.

Also I think it is pure bs to try and credit a race with anything, a society or a culture with a social or cultural contribution, maybe but not a race. That is like me saying I'm good with computers because I'm white and white people mostly developed them or I'm smarter than people of other races because all the really smart people were white. You are still making racially charged statements and therefor you are promoting racism, so please stop. Even if you think its positive, the way to end racism is to stop categorizing people by race, not to make all the categories sound better. Just stop it.

I learned to respect black people when I was young I had black authority figures, teachers, care takers and later drill sergeants. I learned that you show respect to others until they give you reason not to, period. So we need people of all colors to work with young people, educating them, dispelling myths their ignorant parents might tell them. Young people need a lot of exposure to different kinds of people because just one or two may happen to be bad experiences which would have the wrong effect. Sometimes it matters less what people are taught than who does the teaching.

It would be a fantastic step in the right direction, but it wouldn't absolutely eradicate racism. Even if magically all whites were entirely cured of racism, the grudge many blacks have against them (for understandable reasons, I admit) would refuel the enmity. Education is a vital part of the process, but until both sides can stop mistreating one another, racism will persist.

no matter where and when, there will always be judgemental people. These people criticize race, morality, values, politics... everything. So no matter what we do to help, there will always be racism in the world. Maybe not as much as when blacks were slaves, but there will always be racism. Personally, I find it's sick that people cant accept other people for who they are on the inside instead of what they look like or where they come from. But thats just my opinion.

It would help, but the only way to destroy racism is to stop training for it, and exposing people of various races to each other (that’s why “separate but equal” was a very poor policy).

I grew up in the Deep South during the 1960s so racial hatred was part of the culture. I never really met any blacks until I joined the Army. Then I found out that they were just like other people. I have to admit that it took a little time for me to overcome my prejudices, but I did; I had to.

Once a camp was held where Palestinian and Israeli children were brought together and by the time camp ended many were friends. It is not known if they remained friends, but the potential to end racism is there.

The people that need racial education the most are the parents who teach their hatred to their kids. My parents weren’t racists, but the culture was and some of my friends were. They even looked down on me because I was born in the north. The kids didn’t create this behavior, their parents did.

If you consider the Egyptians as blacks then Jesus was just as black. Personally, I think you have nailed it on the head, but the Christian Moral Majority can’t accept that fact. When the bible was first put together, in Rome in 200 AD, racism wasn’t much of an issue. The Roman Empire was integrated, as were their role models, the Greeks. When the English King James set up a convention to revise the bible it was run by white Europeans, so they made the characters in the bible white. They didn’t mention their races in the bible, but all the illustrations were of white people. The church leaders preached the superiority of whites, and assumed that the religious figures were all whites. The Europeans who colonized America started off as mainly religious people and they brought the “white washed” bible to the US.

Agriculture was, and some still is, a manpower intensive operation. In Greek and Roman societies slaves were used to do the work. Since they worked without pay food was cheap to buy. In Europe there were no slaves. The Catholic Church thought it was wrong to enslave people. However, to keep food cheap, a “slave class” was needed. The feudal system, which wasn’t possible without the cooperation of the Church, set up conditions where the majority of the population were serfs, tied to the land. The serfs had to work the land, growing crops. They couldn’t leave the land and they had to pay rent to the king and nobles for the “privilege” to work the land. This payment came off the top and it didn’t matter if the serfs could eat or not. The serfs were not slaves in name only.

In America there was still a need for cheap manpower. The Black Plague had created the middle class, when a person’s labor actually became worth something and had to be paid for. Some machines where made to help with farming, and the new merchant class traded goods and services, made by the middle class, to get cheap food. They often traded with other nations that still had a serf class or near slaves to grow the food.

In the early days of exploration of the New World the European influence came to Africa. With the need to have cheap workers the Europeans started to enslave blacks. They treated blacks like animals, worse than animals sometimes. They were bought and sold like property; the auctions were just like cattle auctions—a horrible and degrading act. To do this, and still remain “moral” Christians had to consider the black race to be subhuman. This is where racism in America got its roots. Once whites had demonized the blacks it was easy to hold racial hatred for other minorities. Religious hatred had been around since before the bible was written, and the worst ones were the Christians. They were persecuted in Rome not for being Christians, but because they didn’t accept other religions and claimed that all the heretics were going to hell unless they converted.

When the Christians came to the new world they continued that tradition of hatred and racism. More importantly they continued to teach it to their children, and so kept the cycle going.

Some of the racial hatred that has causes so much bloodshed in Africa was started by whites who claimed that members of one race were superior to those of another. They did this so they could pit the blacks against each other. Making it easier for the whites to rule them. I am not saying that the European Whites invented racism. Shiites and Sunnis hate each other because they differ on the heritage of Mohammad’s ancestors. But, Christian European Whites are the most skilled at starting and continuing racial hatred.

For racism to finally be beaten people need to be exposed to other races, in a positive manner, so that they see that people of other races are just like they are. The parents have to stop continuing the cycle of hatred
