That, my friend is the real conundrum. To leave the country now, without finishing the rebuild and making sure the new government was in place (and stable) then all that was fought for, all of W's B.S. about "saving" Iraq would come into question again. The guy really put America in the fire as far as the rest of the world was concerned. The only way to save face, both on the international stage and especially at home, is to see it through. (besides, it's the right thing to do. But I'm sure our "oh so wise and benevolent leader" has his own underlying reasons) But the problem with the whole bright idea of getting involved in a war with people who will apparently be fighting forever is. It's never really over. You don't think that as soon as America leaves, I mean with the whole setup in place, that there isn't going to be some uprising and the whole damn thing is going to ripped to shreds again. It really is like survival of the fittest over there.
Hell, we were in a stones throw of Saddam's palace in Desert Storm and we were pulled back. Maybe that was the smartest thing to do. These are the lessons our leaders should have learned over and over. Veitnam, Korea.... Nothing was resolved by american invlovement in those countries. (the Koreas eventually had the good sense to come to an agreement sooo many years later) These were good models for proving the best real course of action, limited support, or no action. If you don't heed history, you are doomed to repeat it. In your life or in politics..it is the essential truth.

Because America was never invited to Iraq in the first place, not even by the UN, not even by the Iraqi people. They invited themselves and distorted the facts to do so. And also, cowboy Bush should have remembered that there is not just war. War kills, war alienates populations against the war wagging countries. And war is NEVER the only solution.
Remember that after 9/11 most of these countries (with the exception of Iran) was supportive of the US and considered Americans to be the victims or terrorist. In a record time, Bush's policy was not only able to restroy that unprecendented support but also to turn local populations against the US.
Well "you don't win peace by wagging war", Bush the christian should have listened to these words from John Paul II. Violence begets violence, and hatred.
And also, there is no simple war. War is not easy. It's tough. It's people killing and dying. So the US should never have considered themselves victorious until war is actually over.

To win a war, right or wrong, there must be concrete goals to achieve through military and political means. If one wages a war primarily to make oneself look tough and macho for voters back home, but have no sense of any military objectives whatsoever, one ends up celebrating "Mission accomplished!" when the war is just beginning. You cannot win if you have no actual enemies at the outset (you'll make some on the way) and if you have no idea what you really want. Cheaper gas? Ha! Getting rid of weapons of mass destruction? Right... Fighting terrorism? There are many more people willing to join al Qaeda now that the US has proven itself to be actually dangerous to ordinary Muslims than before the invasion of Iraq, and the US now has less military capacity to fight al Qaeda, because its trooops are committed to the quagmire in Iraq. Baghdad is Arabic for Saigon...

Your only looking at one side. What about the business aspect. You mentioned a trillion dollars. Businessmen in America made that money. That is not loosing.
Just the gas aspect is a good thing. Before we attack Iraq gas cost 8 cents a gallon in Baghdad now it costs 2 dollars a gallon. That is a tremendous mark up think of the money people are making.
This war is win win. Money is flowing jobs are available at the American weapons factories.
What are you complaining about??? Progress???

War is never a simple thing. War means death, destruction and misery. The so called modern warfare touted by Bush & Co. using smart (***) bomb are nothing but propaganda. Since when did bomb didn't kill indiscriminately. Bomb are meant to kill alot of people in an area indicriminately. That's why they are call a bomb. And if you still can figure out why the arabs (or practically the whole world) hates the American, well I pity ya.
They hate you because your war brought death, destruction and misery to their country. They hate you because of your country blind support for Israel, even though some times Israel act as a terrorist. They hate you because you interfeir with their own country affair. They also hates you for killing their own people through your stupid war on terror.
Do you really think they hate us because of your freedom? Come on seriously. The truth is they don't much care for your way of life. If you had left them alone, they will leave you alone.
So why did normal American perceive them as freedom hating terrorist? The things is, normal american never really give a damn about other people/country culture, way of life and custom. They perceived the outside world through their own biased media source and judge 'em by their great ol' American standard. The American media itself also protrayed the outside world as less important and as expected protraying the american as the great savior/hero/freedom. Combine this with all those lies spin out by Bush & Co., it help create peoples that believe war is simple, They hate your precious "freedom", Iraq is responsible for 9-11, Iraq had WMD, Iraqi welcome our freedom and collective punishment practise by Nazi is a good way to punish the terrorist.
Cut and run? Well as long as Bush is in power, that will never happen. Reason? Very simple, another retreat will be another "Vietnam" and it is too humiliating of a pill for Bush to swallow.

Its funny, but I kind of agree with you. We haven't acheived squat since we've been in Iraq, I don't care what the president says. We're running out of options and running out of them fast...there needs to be some pretty drastic measures taken to fix this thing.

If you think this is a simple war, why don't you go to the Pentagon and the White House and enlighten everyone.

Because the media watches our troops' moves a lot closer than they used to; so they can't get away with as much as they previously could.
