I can't seem to figure this one out! I am sure I'm making it more complicated than it is.

IA motorboat can maintain a constant speed of 16 miles per hour relative to the water, and make a trip upstream in 20minutes; the return trip takes 15 minutes. What is the speed of the current?

Use the formula for figuring rate x time=distance.

You know the rate, you know the speed going is x and the speed coming back is x + 5, the distance is constant.

Try this:

distance = speed x time

V = speed of the current

(16+V) x 15 = (-16+V) x 20

and so on...
