We are returning to Florida for our holiday, but looking for different places to go other than the theme parks as we have been there the last 3 times. Looking for nice beeches near Kissimmee and things a 61/2 year old girl would enjoy. Any ideas

Why is everyone so scared of a hurricane? I live in FL, & all that happens is that the electric goes out, it gets windy, & you have to eat PB&J sanwiches for a week.

Anyways, some ideas to go to:

Destin area - Nice & quiet place. Good if you want to spend a lot of time at the beach & no where else.

Tampa area - Nice beaches, nice people, good for golf & nice casino, Hmm... I think only beaches are good for young-in's!

Key West - NOT GOOD FOR BEACH! They have only 1 beach for visitors (just pay for parking, like $6 per car). Some hotels there own a piece of the beach, BUT the beaches down there have lots & lots of rocks/shells. You WILL NEED WATER SHOES!!! That is the best advice for Key West (besides listen to radio for hurricanes). They have lots of fun little shops to see, a fun ghost tour, & you will have to visit ROBERT the DOLL. (Ask anyone there about Robert & they will tell you). There are nice resturants & bars (for grown ups). There are also boat trips like a glass bottom boat that will allow you to see the reefs.

Thats all I can think of for now. But Kissimmee is still the best for little kids, because you can see the dinner shows & theme parks. Did you go to Gator Land in Orlando? Or the Mystery Dinner Show (it's for kids)??

I gave a website to get discount tickets. The office is located across the street from "Midevil Knights" dinner show.

The best beaches are on the gulf side of Florida. Check out the Destin/Ft. Walton beach areas. Do a google or yahoo search for more info on these beaches. On the Atlantic side, check out NASA, or St. Augustine, Florida (1rst or 2nd oldest US city). St. Augustine has a lighthouse you can tour, and Pounce de Leon's fountain of youth, and several historical things to do. The everglades are great for gator watching, take an air-boat tour. August and Sept. are prime hurricane months so check the weather before you head to Florida.

How about a day trip to the everglades to gator watch on an air boat? what about a dolphin watch? Check with local hotels they generally offer some great excursion brochures right in the lobby.
