Some people are uncomfortable with the ageing process and are indeed, frightened of ageing, especially in places such as California, where a) the sun causes premature ageing and people are scared by this effect and, b) people can afford such surgery.

People are scared to age. Getting older means getting closer to dying, especially to older people. So, doing what they can to stay looking young means they don't look old, which translates into- I'm not going to die.
That, and as mentioned above, we have a very shallow society.

The only reason I can think of is, You dont want to look old and unattractive.. You only live once so you should look nice throughout your life
