As stated, Nintendo are the manufacturers of the Wii.
Wii (pronounced 'wee') is supposed to represent a number of things simultaneously:
- The sound you make when you're having fun
- 'we', as in an idea of playing together
- The two 'i's represent little people standing together.
- It is speculated that 'wii' is 'wifi' with the 'f' removed, wifi being the means of wireless communication used with the controller
- It's a bit of a publicity stunt.
As far as wii can tell, the word has no meaning in Japanese language.

Wii is Nintendo Revolution. They changed the name because they wanted something easier for everyone to remember than such a big name as Revolution or Nintendo. As for the maker, all i know is he's an Italian person. I saw him in a PS3 vs. Wii magazine, I just can't remember his name.

By the lame as ses at Nintendo. Its stands for "wasting interactive interface". Because it wastes your time and energy by flapping your arms like a clapping seal, just to move a character on screen.
