granted I'm not wealthy, but I'm doing OK for myself and I personally don't have any complaints or needs... solid career and a college degree...

I grew up in a very poor area and I was lucky enough to get out... many others were not so lucky... and many of them were hard workers...

because of this, poverty is a key issue for me... I've been there and I know it's more than just "poor lazy people"... and I know if the circumstances had been a little different, I would probably still be there...

It seems like so many on here only think in terms of themself and in terms of "how they can help themself"... perhaps that's part of the problem...

Leogirl0804: I said people... not every person... or I didn't mean every person...

if you didn't assume I am poor, then I'm clearly not talking to you...

null_the_liv... interesting point... especially when they talk about "CHRISTIAN VALUES" which one of the major ones is taking care of the poor...

guess they can just "pick and choose" what they want to worry about... Jesus won't mind

I couldn't agree with you more. There is nothing that upsets me more then people who accuse those less fortunate of being lazy. A vast majority of people on welfare cannot get off because they will get a minimum wage job, and then not be able to pay the bills, afford health care for their family, and put food on the table. As the wealthiest nation on earth we also have a moral obligation to be responsible for everyone in our society. This means that we must take look after each other to insure that each of us has an opportunity to succeed and to live well, if we do not do this we are failing as countrymen and as humans.

Only two types of people care about the poor: Democrats looking to get votes and the poor.

I don't believe everyone on here assumes you are poor, and not everyone thinks in terms of themselves. You are grouping people unfairly. You are judging just like the ones you have accused.
